Well, if it was 6 months ago...it could have been me
Did it have Volk Racing rims, 22b wing, OEM Body kit, and lowered alot (Cusco Zero 2R's)?????
If it had those small, cheap mods....it was me

I used standard Fram oil filters for years but found that the filter case is made of too thin of a gauge sheetmetal and crushes easily if overtightened even just a bit.Bought my Fumoto oil drain valve from The Lube Specialist at $20.95 plus $1.00 for the stainless steel safety clip. This place was cheaper than other places to order from online, and the order was fulfilled quickly.

In the Fram catalog they are but in EVERY OTHER catalog they are different.
Take a look at the stock filter or a Purolator, the threads are very near the rim of the filter. Now look at the Fram filter or a Honda filter. Note that the threads are recessed much further than the stock or Purolator filter.
That may not be the only change, but even if it is, I think it's worth it to get a filter made specifically for the Subaru. At least you'll be guaranteed full thread engagement.
Fram is too lazy to make a specific Subaru filter. Fine by me, I haven't bought a Fram filter in years.
