I asked him a ton of questions, I should really post screen shots of the texts.

Last one was,
Me: have you had any other work done to the car? Are all major maintenances up to date?
Him: nope everything is fine.
Me: so you've had it inspected, leak down, compression, and paperwork for all major services?

Annnnd no response.

Typically the ones that, "know what they have", so that they can stay firm on a price.

To be fair, I most likely would not respond either - whether or not I had a PPI done. Also, it doesn't make a lot of sense to do that because a good amount of people will want to have "their guy" look at it, or not trust yours for some reason.

Then he can keep his overpriced GC. :]

I see where you're coming from though. Maybe my patience is just thin from dealing with flakey sellers for 3+ weeks.

yeah Ive probably bought and sold 40+ cars in the last 25 years or so Ive been driving and Ive never been asked for or expected to get a leakdown/compression test on any used car. Hell even the dealerships dont do this on Certified Pre-owned cars! Did you also ask him for an oil analysis?
Yeah I think I see why he stopped replying

As a buyer, I've always paid for my own PPI and on my latest purchase, my own compression test. For obvious reason, you don't want the seller to pay for the results.

As a seller, unless I get non-refundable deposit, I'm not going to go "out of my way" to do the buyer's bidding. I'd be more than happy to show you the car around and give you a test-ride.

As for the GC, yeah the pricing on GCs are insane, hence it took me quite awhile to get one, and a swapped one at that.

Yeah... And I never asked for him to do the work. My follow up question was going to be if I could get it done, but he jumped the gun and misread.

Wish me luck. Haha

yeah i can relate to you krinks. ive had people pay to do their own ppi but that was on rare occasions and even then, if theyre paying for it and its a shop near me, i dont mind. but i dont do it for them. if they want it, they can set it up and pay for it.

I see where you're coming from though, I know 2.5RS's are still popular but $9k is an absolutely retarded price to ask for a 14 year old impreza with 120k+ miles, even if it did have perfect compression/leakdown. Hell seeing as most people are just going to swap it anyhow its kind of a waste to pay extra for one with a perfect motor but I guess it all depends on what you plan to do with it.

Exactly. I get your point as well, I think there was just miscommunication. Haha.

If I end up with a GC, I will be sourcing parts for a swap. I want the motor to last me about a year or two, until I can get everything together. $9k is just ridiculous.

You'd be surprised. I saw one that sold on NASIOC for $8500 (or $9000) with 120k miles. It seemed to be in good condition. Apparently the seller had 5 guys lined up for it. It sucks, but Impreza attracts geeky / hipster guys, and there's lots of them making good money in the Bay...
