Quoting the whole ad for posterity..WTH did this guy learn how to type?! Plus he clearly think that any parts installed on the car are "investments".

I have a 2001 Subaru Impreza with a special intake/airfilter. Runs great nothing wrong with it oil change has just been done like 40 miles ago. Great tires close to new. CAR has a loud exaust customized. Im adding 1,000 dollars for the sound system 2 12 inch subs worth 700 plus emplifiar another 200 then the sterio 200 that sums up about 1,100 but ill take 1,000. Selling it to get a bigger truck.
If intrested call me at show contact info the car does have 194000 miles but at like 185000 i put a new engine with 135000 miles only. So it might have about 150000 with the new engine i put the new engine about 8 months ago.

Holy crap! I would probably swap out the TBE and suspension back to stock, and leave it.

Gonna have a problem selling that one when the one in Santa Rosa is almost the same price without those issues.

Anyone familiar with either of these cars?

'04 STI?

I texted the seller who said he isn't on i-club, but that he bought the car at 138k miles and he and his brother rebuilt the heads. Car looks clean, but concerned about the lack of service history given the mileage.

'05 STI

I messaged this seller too and turns out he flips cars - bought the car back in January from Audi Stevens Creek. No service records either.

I personally do not know either of those cars. If you are not able to check them out yourself and are concerned about these things, I would be wary as of course these cars are getting older.

People can indeed do great work themselves, but I would take that '04 for a compression check at the very least.

The '05 even from that one picture clearly has had paint work (front bumper/light covers) done on it, and the reflection coming from the door-edge at the left rear quarter panel would have me checking that area for repairs.

Keep in mind that my input is worth "what you paid for it" but it sounds like you are hoping to find a problem-free car, and possibly from a distance.

I have found maintenance records by finding the servicing dealer or shop via Carfax, and then calling them. It does not always work, but sometimes it does. I have paid well into five digits to maintain and improve my '02, but the folder containing all of these records has been misplaced. Additionally, I have tried to hand over thick folders of maintenance records when trading in a car, only to be told that they could not accept it due to privacy concerns. Bummer for everyone.
