confusing clunking noise. HELP!
I have this really confusing clunking coming from my suspension somewhere. I have kw v3 coils on my 04 sti, and every time it either compresses or decompresses it makes a loud clunk. I thought it was my camber plates so i switched back to oem top hats, and it is still making the loud clunk. I thought it was my swaybar, but its on correctly and the endlinks seem fine. Idk what it is..

I had a noise like that...the rubber piece that sits between bottom spring and shock had somehow moved and so I was gettin a little spring/shock touching..not sure this is your case but look around and you may be able to see what is touching (look for rubbed off spots or damage)

If I can't figure it out today id make an apt at auto innovations and have them look over your suspension. A lot easier to diagnose on a lift.
Just a suggestion, before you start looking into all the suspension stuff, I would suggest that you look at the torsion bars for the rear trunk lid. Mine would make the same noise, every time I go over a bump. I replaced both the torsion bars and the noise went away.
I have this damn clunking noise, too. Mine's coming from the front passenger's side. I jacked it up, took the tire off, and couldn't see anything out of the ordinary...end links seem fine; no irregular rubbing spots.
It's weird, I can recreate the sound easily when I'm going very slowly and step on the brakes suddenly. I'm thinking it's the bushing between the spring and the shock tower that's been tweaked somehow...I guess I'll be disassembling the whole assembly to find out
