Yup. Computer science is actually a really good example. Like, 50 billion people majored in computer science a few years back b/c it was the thing to do, the bandwagon that would make a lot of money.

But then the tech bubble crashes, and we're left with like 49.9999 billion college students who don't really LIKE computer science, and just did it because they wanted to make money. Hence, they became screwed.

Noone can tell you what major is best for you. It's all about what interests you and how much money you can make in the long run. Also, I hate to say it, but the school you go to is just as important as the degree because many employers know the caliber of the school and hire accordingly. I have my MSCS from San Jose state(WAN network and security), and my BSEE from Cal poly(semiconductor test). I'm also going to finish my MBA at santa clara next semester, I took a year off from it. Every interview I've every been in they employer keys in that I went to Cal Poly, and is the least bit interested that I have my masters.

As the job market is so tight, the better your qualifications, the better off you'll be. CS is still a pretty hot area to get into, but it's not for everyone.

All these guys have fine points. It's about what you really want to do, and if you can't really figure out what that is, then take some time off and do other things until you get an idea of what really is for you.

I know a lot of us don't want to be stuck doing a dead end job that they hate. Try to find the best thing that really grabs your attention and you're curious about. Research on it and maybe that'll lead you to an answer, a major.

They key in you going to Cal Poly? That's a damn good school for engineering/cs

It's because Cal Poly is known for it's practical. Most schools people come out with a lot of theoretical knowledge, but not a whole lot of hands on. Cal Poly was lab after lab, when I started working it was pretty much wind me up and point me in the right direction. I'd already designed, fabbed, and tested my own semiconductor, so I had a pretty good idea where to start. We have a kid that just came on board out of BYU. Great school, but he doesn't know his *** from a hole in the ground, although he cam spew formulas until your ears bleed

I hate to say it but if you're on your 3rd year at JC you should already know this information. You must see a counselor immediately.

So, the point is, you're supposed to go to college b/c you have a desire to learn about something in depth, not because you want to make more money, although sadly that's what 95 percent of all people go to college for...

very true indeed when you say that 95% of ppl go to college so that they can make more money or acquire a job that pays well...it would be nice if we could actually go to school to expand our knowledge, but unless you were born rich or dont have to really worry about paying bills then arghhh there is no time really...besides with tuition these days, you really cant be like hrmmm what would i like to do for 8 years or so....sad but i guess thats how this society is
