I hear this statement all the time and I can almost guarantee that your engine has pinged more than a few times if you're running a Cobb base map.

Reading this thread was enough to get me to go do the whole AccessPort upgrade process to get the latest maps so I could try out the Cali map. Unmarry the AP, dig up the power supply and serial cable, run the AP upgrade, upgrade the map software, dl the latest maps, remarry the AP, flash the cali map. What a lot of work! I'm running stage2 cali now. I'll reply if I see any noticable affect on performance.

That, and the ECU automatically starts to retard timing if minor pinging is occuring

Also, you guys are right, I have no idea if my engine has been pinging or knocking. I've never done any fancy testing but I will say the car "feels like" it's running smoother with the Cali map applied. How's that for scientific analysis.
