Why do you have to unmarry the AP? Am I totally missing out on something here? (most likely)

How exactly do you know that you've had no pinging? Most people cannot hear pinging and therefore assume they don't have any. The only real way to tell if the car has been pinging is to do some datalogging or listen to the engine with det cans.

I hear this statement all the time and I can almost guarantee that your engine has pinged more than a few times if you're running a Cobb base map.

Thanks

Unmarry the AP, dig up the power supply and serial cable, run the AP upgrade, upgrade the map software, dl the latest maps, remarry the AP, flash the cali map. What a lot of work! I'm running stage2 cali now. I'll reply if I see any noticable affect on performance.
Again, you can't say that you haven't experienced any pinging or knocking unless you have done some fairly extensive data logging. Don't assume just because you don't hear anything or even don't feel anything off that there is no knock occuring. Most people simply can't pick knock out from all the other engine noises.

Thanks

That, and the ECU automatically starts to retard timing if minor pinging is occuring

Looked at my AF curve...10.8 at idle, 13.1 at max power (5500rpm) , avg of 11.2

I'm just referring to the recent AccessPort software upgrades. The special program you had to run in order to do the latest maps that required the AP to be unmarried. It's been awhile since I fooled around with the thing.

Also, you guys are right, I have no idea if my engine has been pinging or knocking. I've never done any fancy testing but I will say the car "feels like" it's running smoother with the Cali map applied. How's that for scientific analysis.
