That's like saying your abdominals don't help you punch and kick. I've heard that the real Bruce Lee repped 95 pounds for his squat sets. Now maybe he did 318235789452 squats but there are a lot of people who attribute Bruce Lee's uber-hitting ability to his uber-abs.

Why didn't you do hurdles? I used to split my training between jumping and hurdling, I mean especially if you've got a martial arts background that gives you a huge advatage in hurdles! (and you are friggin' 6'6"?) Maybe that wouldn've allow you to jump over 2, or 3 cars . I see that you jumped higher than me by a full inch.

But seated calf raises w/ 6 plates thats CRAZY!!! that's crazy!!! Did your dad make you do them as a little kid or something?

Well actually I have an afro-american friend who never really trained his calves but does squat 500 pounds. He doesn't jump as high as me in normal life walking around, but on the gymnastics floor, he jumps at least as high as Paul Hamm or those other olympic gymnasts. I stopwatched his air off of a roundoff - definately enough time for a friggin' double layout. Anyhow, it's because he's not really a gymnast so when he does his roundoff he kind of "squats down" bending his knees. But then he uses his squatting-500-pounds-glutes-and-quads to deliver massive whupass to the spring floor and flies like....>2 seconds in the air.

But then again he is genetically gifted too.

Yeah... I used to be a really, REALLY thin kid growing up... so in 1998, I started lifting weights, and my ideal goal was to get like Bruce Lee. Well, I eventually got bigger than Bruce Lee (he wasn't that big... just cut as all hell). Anyway, one of the things I wanted to achieve was to get bigger calves. Little did I know that calves were the hardest muscle to grow. I started out with one 45lb plate for seated calve raises... here I am 5 years later doing 6-7 plates at a time (50 reps for each set). Alan (MinesracingGDB) has seen me do it... (if there's doubt).

What's funny, my calves have only grown about an inch and a half since starting. hahah! I've always played soccer though, and marital arts (lots of jumping and such). I also used to be a long distance runner... so my calves/legs were always getting worked out in some shape or form. Not to mention when I lived in Germany I used to have have to climb all sorts of hills all the damn time (my backyard was literally a forest and a big *** hill... my friends and I used to play there every day).

In the 6th grade, I won the first place medal for standing broad jump... I never even knew I could jump... just kinda showed up one day, jumped... and blew everyone away. lol... they were 6th graders though and I was like 6'6 back then... (lol, jk).

Oh yeah... Im talking 45lbs plates... not 100lb plates.

So, like 315lbs or so for 50 reps... 5 or 6 times. (250-300 reps)

who said jumping isn't about calves?

It's about pretty much your whole stinking leg. hams. quads. whole bit. but definately...and I mean definately about the calves. Why do you think they made those jump shoes...that's all calf building. And they work...well.

But yeah..it's about the whole leg. In high school I lifted about 3 hours a day 6 days a week. I did lots of leg work. lets just say I haven't touched a seated calf raise in like....5 years but I'd be willing to bet I can do 6 plates right now....not 50 times....but I can do it. Once I get back from my knee surgery and get back into shape maybe me and dan can see whats up..haaa. Sad thing is...and dan..DO NOT make this mistake, please. middle of my freshman year in college I decided I wanted to start mass building... I always like putting up large numbers so I went for it. Graduated high school at 168 pounds...could dunk, run the 40 in 4.6ish and what not. end of my freshman year I was 207. never found a gym that could max me out on the hip sled. did 1010 at 24hour. they only had 2 100 pound plates there. but that was my 5th set and I did it 5 times. I was talking to the trainers there and they said I'd probably be around 1400 pounds max. then I got hit by a car..got desk job...and I got up to 260 pounds. down to 235 now..target is 200 after the surgery I'll be busting my ***.

anyways...long story...be freaking careful with the way you train your muscles.

oh....and the abs thing...I'd be willing to bet dan's abs are pretty damn ripped. Abs have a great deal to do with being able to jump cars and crap like that....have to bring the legs up...way up.
