Damm that is totally bogus. The government and citizens of California are *****ing about the budget crisis in this state and trying to shut down schools to save money, and then the state dumps funds into a program like this?

This state needs to get it's priorities straight. Way more important things to worry about than making roads that sniff your car!!

it shouldn't be too bad. Just coast in neutral while passing and your readings shouldn't be as high

or just don't boost when you drive past. it says there are signs posted in areas where they are in use. if this somehow got rid of the visual inspection, i'd be 100% for it.

Heh, wonder what happens when I drive by one in my '56 ****** pick up truck that has absolutely no emissions systems and by law is exempt? I guess someone has to look at these pictures and figure out what's up. And what about out of state cars?

even if your car is exempt from having regular smog tests, if you're found to be a "gross-polluter", you can be forced to clean up your emissions...

I wish SMOG was all about actual emissions.

For instance, only since SB42 have older cars been able to avoid having to use antiquated and problematic original smog equipment.

I would tune my old BMW 2002 to be clean, even though I had no EGR, PCV, or Smog pump.

If you delete two cats, but have one high-flow, high-efficiency cat, and passed the same readings, it should be allowed.

Cali makes no sense...

"They see them as an answer to growing criticism of the system, in which a bribe can prompt a mechanic to pass a dirty car, or faulty diagnostic equipment can fail a clean one."

So the government wants to bypass diagnostic equipment by buying and using diagnostic equipment? How does that make any sense?
So police can take bribes, does that mean we should replace the police force with robot cops?

Yet another questionable idea, regardless of partisan politics (where in the article does it say Democrats approved this idea?)
