i am dead serious. this guy missed our company meeting because of it. the next day we went to see him at his office and he showed us the police report. the irvine police told him this is happening daily many times a day. it is costing him $2500 to get a new exhaust complete with a cat since it was cut and not unscrewed. this is going on all the time now in irvine and other cities.

Consider this: what if everyone ran their cars catless? Roadways would smell horrendous... I don't see the point of running catless on the street... sure it's good for power and arguably it is better for fuel economy (slightly) but you can get popped for a huge ticket and it smells bad to everyone following you.
It sucks they're being stolen... platinum is expensive and new cats are expensive... there must be an underground market for them.

The stealing of catalytic converters has been going on for awhile. It mainly happens in Auto Malls and truck dealerships. You just crawl under the truck at night and saw the cat off. Excellent money for 12 seconds of work!
