Camera Gurus, I need some advice.
I've been looking at buying a pretty simple point and shoot camera with enough power to give me some really great looking photos, but at the same time it needs to be TINY, long battery life on a single charge, and be 7mega pixels or more... I looked and looked and looked, then out of the blue one of my family members bought me a gift without even knowing that I wanted a camera, he got me an Olympus FE 370, 8mp, compact, big rear display.
It's brand new in the box and has never been opened and he gave me a gift receipt in case I didn't like it... This camera is right up my ally, on paper at least. Thats where my question comes in...
Since I have a gift receipt I can return it for around $130 and get a different camera, a camera that I can add just a little bit more dough into if I wanted to, or do you think I should keep this camera and have fun with it?
I'm not a photographer in any sense, but I'm tired of using my old 1mp POS from 1999
I honestly think my cell phone takes better pics...
I'd be mostly shooting guns (no pun intended), cars, and random other things like my friends and stuff when we have our get togethers, and its 8mp and has some decent options. I'd love to have a digital SLR but thats really not practical right now or what I need it for since I need something tiny that can fit into my pocket and I wont be heart broken if it breaks.
So what says thee all mighty BAIC? Accept camera or return it for different model/make?

PS: I was going to post this in the photography thread but since that thread is for high end SLRs and digital editing, my lowly camera wouldn't have fit in at all.
PPS: That is NOT the actual size of the camera, not even close... The real one is much smaller and doesn't feel all cheap like some little cameras... It has a decent amount of weight to it and feels very solid.
PPPS: The model I got as a gift is the blue one. I would have gone with black, but blue looks pretty cool.

My first digital camera was a Olympus, loaned from my uncle. It was a decent camera in those days, like 02/03
If that camera is worth $130 Daniel you can return it and get this:
http://www.amazon.com/Canon-PowerSho...7117322&sr=1-3
Here are sample photos:

It's not much more, and Amazon will ship it for free, and tax free, so you only pay that amount you see there.

I just bought a Panasonic DMC-LZ8 and I am really happy with it. Like you, I was using a old Olympus 1.3MP camera from pre-2000, so I just wanted something, anything, that would take better pics. Here is a sample pic I was going to use as a "Post your EDC" thread which I haven't gotten around to starting, and a pic of my gf's cat. BTW, these were taken at .3MP just so they didn't take so damn long to load.

What I like about the camera so far is that it uses AA batteries (Alkaline, Ni-MH, etc.) so there aren't any proprietary battery packs to worry about it. It takes standard SDHC cards, which is nice (versus Sony's Memorystick, etc.). You can have manual control over shutter priority, exposure, etc. (and when I find out what that means, I'm sure I'll like the camera even more). It also has a wide-angle lens so you can take photos in 16:9 format, and can also shoot HD-ish videos in 16:9 as well (it also does everything in 4:3 too). It's also only $100, so what have you got to lose?
Amazon sells it through a 3rd party retailer here

It's definitely a GREAT camera, BUT, probably not within the budget that Daniel was looking for.

I'd go with either the Canon Powershot series or the Casio Exilim series.
The more manual adjustments the better. And image stabilization comes in handy as well. I've had a good experience with Canon's version of IS.

I've had bad luck with cannon point and shoots... My wife had a really high end one and it was not fun to play with, way too complicated for the small camera I wanted.
I just want basic features with good zoom, good res, and has to be tiny.
So for my needs this olympus wouldn't be so great?
Do you really think I'd need the features of the cannon? I mostly do point and shoot type shots, nothing fancy... Mainly for those random shots when you're with your friends... Those are always the best shots... I dont want to carry a big or expensive camera around... $130ish is about the budge for me... add $20 maybe, but xmas is coming and I Can't afford anything better really (in cost).
I also don't care about the battery being an olympus battery, nor do I care about the 1 gig memory card, thats all I need

I like it, it's easy enough for my kids to use and it takes good pics.

I stick with this one, its bound to be a huge improvement over what you've had, and whatever you might trade it in on isn't going to have a lot more features or anything, besides- both will be effectively obsolete in about 4 months anyway
