Calaveras Rd has some (read "a lot") gravel...
I drove Calaveras tonight with a friend and we came up on a sign that said "Road Construction Ahead". I was confused. Then the sign that said "Gravel" passed by, I smiled. I drove slower and a good time. The gravel lasts for a good mile at least, and there's enough to make bad mistakes or have a lot of fun.
Have fun, stay safe.

It starts as you enter Alameda County. And now that I think about it, it's probably longer than a mile. If you want to go up there, let me know, I'm tempted to drive it again.
Holy crap, i just ran through this, and its amazingly fun. I had never been on calaveras road or in gravel before, but by my second trip though i was able to arc all the way through the turns i could see were clear. I spun my car once on my first trip through, before i had figured out how much countersteer was necessary. This is a real opportunity to learn some car control (i sure did!) and have a horrible time pulling your car back on to the road. Next time i do this i am going to swap on my 15" all seasons though, it isn't too good on summer tires.
