Brian Lock Takes Subaru to Top Step in Oklahoma
9/18/2005 Hallet, OK- The US Touring Car Championship made it’s second-to-last stop on Sunday in the beautiful Oklahoma countryside. Not only was this the Tour’s first appearance at Hallet Raceway, but it would be the first ever double points East/West Tour crossover event. Double points meant double stakes for Brian Lock and Dave Brown. Lock had been systematically shaving points from Brown’s points lead all year, and this was a chance for either competitor to sway that margin in their favor. A win from Brown would mean clinching the championship, where a win from Lock would sustain the Driver’s Championship until the very final round.

The first sessions on Hallet’s unique circuit proved revealing. “The track was a flowing track, requiring very precise lines to be fast,” said Lock, “but it was also extremely bumpy, which works against that. Lucky for us the WRX has great travel, and our DMS setup gave us the flexibility to set up the car exactly how we needed it to be to handle such a track.” This was evidenced by the Subaru’s dominance in the early sessions. It rode smoothly through the bumps while other cars struggled for traction. Time was continually gained throughout the sessions on Saturday with minor chassis adjustments, and Lock won the provisional Pole.

Nice Job, Brian. I drove Hallett a couple years back in my Impala when we held our national convention in Tulsa.
Note : never hold ANY kind of national convention in Tulsa
That said, Hallett was the highlight of the week. Fun track, different than the ones we have out here. Braking zone into turn 2 (running CCW) can define "pucker factor" if you aren't ready
. Have a really cool picture of my SS coming out of turn 3 with a "train" of 3 other SS's right behind it!
Just curious, what were your lap times if you were running CCW? As I remember, fastest SS there (big motor, pretty much nothing else stock, WELL experienced driver) was down in the 1:32-1:33 range....in a 4000 lb plus tank

My fastest lap of the weekend was a 1:26.2X and we were running CCW. Your right, that braking zone for turn 2 is pretty hairy. All you see is trees coming at you with no runoff. It reminded me of loosing my brakes at San Jose, but there I had nice soft tire walls to hit, not trees.
Did you here the chicken song when you were there. We heard it every morning at like 6:30 AM!

No chicken song....didn't get to the track till after 6:30 the one day we were at Hallett.
Like I mentioned, Tulsa itself sucked. Screwy beer/liquor laws (you can't buy COLD beer in the store, but you can buy room temp beer!), some cops that seemed intent on harassing anyone with an out-of-state plate, and hotter-n-hell (heat index was about 115 the week we were there...we had car show judges fainting!). Track was pretty cool though
Found that pic I was talking about.....my car is the front one, the rear car is just coming thru turn 2 (I am thru turn 3).
