brake question-pick a shim,any shim

brake question-pick a shim,any shim

so today im installing new pads/rotors and found this,3 shims per pad. wth?
so,of these 3,which one should i use?

Whichever one fits to the pad without interfering with the caliper bracket or rotor.

The ones on the left look just like the thick shims that my carbotech pads have mounted to them, the ones on the right are the thin stock shims. ones in the middle - no idea.
I use both the left & right ones when running both street pads & track pads & everything works fine. have no idea why the stock thin shims are angled so the pistons work across the edge of them, i assume there must be some good reason...?

i have no idea either. what i do know is they were causing the clank in my brakes when i would come to a stop and then reverse.

Since it is an STI, I think that is a known issue.
