BEWARE: Credit Card Balance Transfer Checks

Some not-so-nice person stole balance transfer checks from my credit card company right outta my mailbox. Subsequently this person used (at least) one of them and I found an additional $800 or so on my credit card balance.

It shouldn't be a problem to get reimbursed by the credit card company. But I've asked them to stop sending these checks to me. In fact, I'm going to ask all my creditors not to send such things in the mail. I'd suggest we all do the same. And, read all your mail thoroughly.

FYI - if this happens to you, call up your credit card company and dispute it. Then they send you a copy of the check and you verify that you did not use it and that the funds did not go to anything you own or owe. (I should get this copy in a few days). Then you call them up and tell them and get refunded soon after. It helps having a fiance that works for a bank to hand hold you through this crap

jason

p.s. any lurkers who think "Hey neat idea to get some fast cash!"... they do follow these things up. Think about it... the check you write shows where the funds are going and the trail will lead back to you.

Yeah the same thing happened to me last summer. I open a bill which I assumed was for aprox $25.00 and the bill states 800.00. This was a discover card promo deal.

It was taken care of and I was out nothing but some stress and a headache.;

it's balance transfer checks that come with your bill. not a new card.
