best oil for my03wrx
Hey I'm doing my own 30k service now I'll be useing same mobil1 syn. with OEM oil and fuel filters. But what about tranny and frnt/rear diffs. what brand should I use and wieght?? Also 1 or 2 water weters and what brand anti freeze subaru or other brand. Since I'm doing the work here on base I could afford some better oils so what should I use and where do I buy. I dont race the car but do drive it hard one in a while
PS where is the fuel filter near gas tank or up under the hood? thanxs again Mig.
PS brakes will come next with new rotors pads oil and ss hose

I'm just talking off the top of my head right now but I would use 50/50 with the water wetter/anti freeze.
For tranny fluid probably Redline 70w90 will be good. I've heard that redline may be too thin if you plan on making a race car, but other than that it should be fine. Probably get non-synthetic becuase synthetic would be too slipperyy for the syncho's and might lead to grinding

Redline is junk!!! A synthetic tranny fluid is fine as long as the additives are right to Prevent syncro slip. Try the Amsoil Syth Tranny fluid. It has the additive package your looking for.

We always use Mobil 1 75W90 for both tranny and diff for a WRX. Ive been using it forever myself and I have no problems. None of our customers have anything but good things to say after we change it for them too.
Thats our opinion so take it for what its worth!

I'm running Amsoil 5W30 motor oil now too in lieu of Mobil 1 synth

I mean, has anyone destroyed their tranny with redline?
I remember searching for transmission fluids and at least on this board I don't recall seeing really *bad* outcomes with redline, but maybe I'm mistaken. People over at another board really seem to love the shockproof HD.

The redline synth has shown time and time again to be to slippery for the syncros. Due to lack of syncromesh additives. Some friction is good in this case. The syncors require friction to work properly. Poor syncro friction can result in delayed shift time especially if you do not rev match. I am a firm believer in Amsoil and thier products. The research that goes into thier lubricants is second to none. They were the first in synthetics and continue to lead.

I have used Redline in other transmissions to great success and I believe that it is an excellent product. It's also the oil I see people use at the track, and this says a lot to me.

But there are two different redlines, one with Non-slip additive and one without, both are bad?

Personally, I'd run 10/30 Mobil 1 unless you plan on going to Alaska.
Regular 80/90 valvoline in the tranny and diff is fine, since that's what the synchros and limited slip are designed for.
To avoid corrosion, make sure you use an equal portion of distilled water and subaru or honda antifreeze/anti-boil, and add one Subaru cooling system conditioner (stop-leak)... they started recommending this as some WRXs develop minor coolant seepage at the head gasket and/or radiator tanks.
