Dude,

Granted the place looks like a hole in the wall. Their burritoes rock! La Costena has been around for as long as I can remember, I'm 41 now, and the place was there even back in the seventies. Think about it, if their burritoes really sucked, you think they'd still be open? Most real old school burrito places are in fact hole in the walls.. I could be wrong, but it could also be that your co-workers are too prissy..

Crazy as it may sound, I have been to a taqueria before. La Costena doesn't look like a hole in the wall, it looks like a nice market or something. In comparison, my fav taqueria (El Metate in Belmont) looks like ***. I was just relaying what people I work with had said, not my opinion since I have never been there. I'll have to check and see if my co-workers are prissy or not. One of these days, I will just stop by and get a burrito when I am out and around by myself.

Sorry wombat, wasn't trying to insult your co-workers. Hope you enjoy your first La Costena burrito.

Norcal's idea of a burrito disgusts me. Beans, rice, cheese and nasty sauces in a burrito??! YUCK!

This place ---> > Any Norcal taqueria

Umm...you have not got out much huh? There is a large Hispanic population in Norther California too. I grew up in Socal and there are just as good mexican food up here.

But nothing as good as in Mexico

Let me know where you can get a decent carne asada burrito around here then, or even a California burrito.

Most places up here don't even know what that is.

Anyone know of a place that serves their Al Pastor w/ chunks of pineapple? That's always a definite winner for me. There's this one place in Mt. View that I've gone to that served it just like that, good eats! Just wondering if there were any other.

Anyways, the Cal-Mex places at Alviso are pretty decent, in my opinion.

Chalateco!

Can't go wrong with a couple of tacos or a burrito al pastor (pineapple if you like).

There are a few in San Jose.

Blue Monkey had decent tacos, but that was it. I remember going there one night. $10 cover, and only stayed there for like 10 minutes or less. Weren't you there Ave?

Papa Chevos, was OK for me. Granted, it wasn't that bad. I'm just pretty sure there are far better places around there.

Oh, Urupan in Hayward is pretty good, too. Nicely sized burritos for the price.
