I definitely recommend driving and getting used to as many different types of cars and clutches as possible, but I really don't see a problem with someone learning stick in an STi.

I'd have to disagree here. I learned in a 73 bug. I took my drivers test in a 91 crx.

I had my wrx for 1 day. I drove it to the office and took my coworker for a drive. She has an 03. She got pissed because I was already smoother at shifting than she was and she'd had hers on the track already.

Experience with any stickshift will make adjusting to the sti easier. Not to mention that..having basic knowledge of downshifting and stuff like that will keep him safer while driving his new STI.

I can get into any car stick car and drive it. Just have to pick up the catch point in the clutch. My next project is learning how to drive a big rig. I eventually want to get a lisense in every kind. And if I get rich...in helicopters.

if any of you guys ride you should stop buy. ignore the fact most of the users are like 15. There are some cool guys on the boards and we're working on improving right now. need to buy new servers....over 20k users now I think. Just got to big on us. Even have some decent fabricators. have plans in motion to build our own fork and one of the other mods builds DOPE steel frames if anyone is interested I could get him to drop his price some for you guys.

I'm the same name there.

I doubt that. It depends if that kid has good foot control skills..like me..lol j/k
I learned in my friend's mitsu colt and hachi. That felt like hell when I got it to buck back and forth. Maybe that's why they called that car a Colt...hehe

Good advice. I learned on my dad's 1973 Karmann Ghia. That car is sweet. First time I heard of a long-throw shifter. Haha.

And it's not like he's been driving for years and is just now learning stick. he's young.

I told him to go borrow and old bug or civic to learn on.
My very first time driving stick, was an old celica. After that first 30 minute time, I learned the rest on my 230AWHP '02 WRX(very similar to a stock STi power I think). Tranny is still holding up at 70k miles, and now still somehow holding together with 240AWHP and 270AWT.

I am thinking of getting a 20g, and I'll probably blow my WRX tranny with that power, so... I'll take his STi one!
