That's becuase it is a designed cat-back exhaust...not a weld on muffler.

Another alternative is to do a muffler delete and come straight off your resonator to some tips.

That would be loud as hell.
To be honest tho....the drone was less with the straight pipe on my car lol but man was it loud.

The resonator should provide some dampening though. I've seen it done on a later model STI and on an '02 M5. The M5 sound was very nice and similar to a Dinan exhaust I had at the time (much cheaper too!). No drone as you mentioned due to the resonator.

Straight pipe is toooooo loud omg lol

i have a few axle backs for GD lying around. Keep an eye out for the killer deals. i paid $40 for my 3" catback.
