Autocross events

Hey guys!

I'd like to experience autocross... I've been wanting to, but I don't know where to begin with. I guess, so I can know a little more about it, I'd like to watch some of these events and from there, I can find out a little more about joining the next time.

Are there any events around here in the bay area, or anywhere the neighboring areas outside?

TIA.. gnite!

This weekend's event is at Marina airport at Monterey. See http://www.sfrscca.org/solo2/cgi-bin...t_three_months
for more details.
We were at Golden Gate Fields last Sunday. Lot's of subies. Come out and ask for a ride. They'll be happy to give you one.

If you are serious about racing, then do the following:

come to an event and hang out like judd said. Get somes rides.

If you want to race yourself, go to www.scca.org and fill out an application. this can take like 2 months sometimes before you get your card. You can e-mail them for a proof of membership e-mail like 3 weeks after you apply. In the mean while somone here can sponsor you for an Event or 2. bring $30, enthusiasm. You can borrow or get a loaner helmet at the events. (limited supply)

If you can't make Marina tomorrow, Oakland Coliseum is next on the 30th.
I don't think too many Scoobies will be at Marina tomorrow. Some of the usual suspects are skipping it.

I'm skipping marina as well. But Plenty of us will be more than happy to walk you through it and give you a ride. I'll be at pretty much every race except marina - I'm #244 STX - feel free to ask for a ride.

If you get to an auto-x early enough, you can enter into it as a "guest" of someone who is already a member. I'm sure anyone on the boards will do that. I'd say before you fill out an application (and one comes free from Subaru atleast with my '02 WRX) you should atleast drive it once, watch it a couple times, get to know people, understand how much this will pwn your tires especially Golden Gate Fields (where my brother lost 20% of his tread on ES-100s in 3 runs), oh and remember to ALWAYS walk the course walk. One time I went out to lunch before the run, and I missed the course walk and I was confused the whole way down the track...

Remember, slower in = less understeer = faster out

Or my favorite version of that:

Slow in, fast out. Fast in, backwards out.

I don't want it to be mine. I want to feel like I worked for anything I win. Like last sunday, I worked pretty hard I felt. Going and not having anyon to race against is kinda sucky. What if the BMWs come? I'll be all alone

Yeah, come and get sponsored by one of us for the day, and for $30, you can go out and have fun!
