AUDT: My sister's cat is sick.

Hi all.

Long story short. My sister's cat (Duckie) has kidney stones. They admitted him to the vet on Friday. Ran some test, kept it overnight Friday and Saturday night. The vet let my sister take him home on Sunday. Anyways, the cat is still urinating blood. She took him to the vet today and they said that it may be worse now and that he may need surgery. My sister is financially tapped out. I would try to help her, but I am tapped out as well.

Anyways, do you guys have any recommendations on other vets or any other things we can do about the cat. Honestly, I if the Vet didn't get it right the first time, how likely is it they are going to get it right the second time?

Any ideas?

For everyone's information, the vet is American Care Center or something by American High School in Fremont.

Yeah. I wonder how much the surgery will be if it is needed. Not that I would let them cut Duckie open. They f***ed up once. How much credibility do you have if you royally f***ed up?

^lol. but i'm pretty sure if you take it to another vet like a mom and pop shop they should help you out. they didnt become vet doctors to watch animals suffer over financial issues. (if they did you dont want them as your vet)

See, this is why I dont want pets. I never heard of pets getting human style illnesses (cancer, kidney stones, etc) before 1990 now I hear about at least one a month. Not worth it to ay hundred or even thousands of dollars to keep a lower life form alive for a little longer.

Seriously, I have two cats and a dog. They are like my kids to me... but if any one of them came down with anything more serious than a couple hundred bucks to fix... I would put them down. Cancer? Kidney stones?

Honestly, what is their life going to be like after surgery? Couple of years of pain and suffering before they finally kick it?

Ultimately, they are pets.

Another thing to look at is to google home remedies for kidney stones. I don't know, man.

I had the same situation happen twice to my male cat. He has the Feline Lower Urinary Tract Disease (FLUTD), which is fun let me tell you.

I actually took him to this spot you are talking about, I used to live down the street so it was a easy ride for me and him. Dude I probably spent 7-9 hundred to get time unblocked, he had crystals which caused his urine to backup into his kidneys and so forth. Poor lil guy almost dies twice because of this. Anyhow, there is plan they did offer at that vet where you could basically finance the expense. I can't remember what it was called but luckly I was able to place the cost on a Credit Card.

At any rate, check out Medical Benefits for pets, yes the actually have them and you do pay monthly just like normal benefits. You may come out pocket, fact you will, however a lot of items are covered such as meds and so forth. If not that, ask about the finance plans, they do have them at all vets.

Good luck!

Call UC Davis....get a hold of their Veterinary school....I hear they are much cheaper than a vet and do excellent work.

Although, I specifically heard that about certain surgeries, so this might not be available through them, but hey...its something.
