I was leaning toward a handgun. Most likely a Glock and figured I might be able to save a little by purchasing one second hand as opposed to purchasing a brand new one.

you just have to get used to it.

my SIGs are all DA/SA. lots and lots of range time will get you used to it.

its up to you. just like anything second hand, you dont know what kind of damage the PO has done to it.

also, $$$ falls into the equation.

for your first (an only) firearm, i suggest new.

With used there are plenty of factors and one of the big unknowns would be how many rounds on the barrel. Too many and accuracy can suffer somewhat, but it also takes a lot of rounds to do that - finding out how many can be difficult though. You can usually see right away if the previous owner took care of it outwardly or if it was heavily used, but that still doesn't tell you how many rounds. I would probably lean toward new also until you are fairly familiar with firearms.

How do you guys feel about a Mossberg 500 Tactical? With a pistol grip and a stock.

I have shot that, I liked it but I like my semi auto Remington 11-87 better.

Your best option is to go to the different firing ranges that offer weapons rental and test them out yourself. Do a search online a see which ranges are in your vicinity. Then call and ask if they rent weapons for test firing purposes and see if they have what you are looking for. You should also physically go to a weapons store and check them out. Ask the people that work there, they SHOULD be competent in what they say.

Asking about them online is different than actually seeing the weapon, holding the weapon, and firing the weapon.

Agreed. I am definitely leaning toward the Glock, but... I am a little tight on funds. Going to owe the government money this year... Oh well...

Ha, good luck with that. Once you get your weapon, whatever you choose to get, you'll be spending ALOT of money on it in terms of ammo and upgrades...LOL...goodluck!

I have a mossberg 500 tactical USMC edition, i love it but adding upgrades makes it even better. I like my shotgun and like my handguns pretty much equally. Each serve their own purpose. Shotguns make a big boom however and after shooting one it puts a giant grin on your face.

They had 2 Glock 22s at Markley's about a week ago or so for $450 or so. I would of swooped one up if I wasn't saving up for an AK.
