AUDT: Which to get? Handgun or shotgun?

Opinions? Recommendations on which guns/shotguns/caliber?

Not really looking for something for home-defense. Just thinking more about something recreational and for sport use.

Recreation like what? As in, you would like to do what with it? If not for defense, I don't really see a shotgun as a benefit unless you plan to hunt or trap shoot.

I'd get a full size handgun, probably polymer if cost is a big factor, in the common calibers: 9mm or .40. Price range is going to be kind of a factor too, because there's a pretty wide range for both long and handguns.

My advice is go to a place like Targetmasters in Milpitas, rent a gun and see what you think. http://www.targetmasterswest.com/

That's the regular size (.40 cal) version of the Glock? Any reason over the Glock 17? Other than a larger round?

At the range shooting targets. Something along that line.

9mm is less expensive to shoot than .40 and that's what I shoot most often for that reason (I don't reload my own yet). I go target shooting almost every other week, sometimes every week. Plenty of entertainment, but with a purpose All common handgun ammo can be somewhat expensive and difficult to find right now though.

With the handgun for me it is to try to be consistent and hit what I am shooting at; the accuracy. Not always as simple as it sounds.

With the shotgun it is pretty much because boomstick It pretty much hits what you are pointing it at that is within range.

Nice. Yeah. Sounds like the handgun requires a little more technique than the shotgun. I guess they both could be fun.

Yeah. Really. Not that I am questioning your choice or anything. I just don't have that much knowledge about shotguns, or handguns for that matter. Telling me M4 is like telling me something in another language. I don't understand. Hahaha.

Depends on what you're shooting Trap shooting does require plenty of technique. Hunting game with slugs would too. General purpose though, shotgun is for lots of coverage quickly with a little less aiming.

Both can be very fun.
