Anyone working in Biotech or pharmacology companies?
Hey all, I was curious how many people are in the biotech / pharmacology field on i-club. I've seen posts on occasional mentioning that they are in the field. Aside from that, I also have an alterior motive, and that is...I'm about to graduate from Berkeley as an undergrad. So once I graduate I need to find a job. Does anyone know of any openings? I interned for Bio-Rad over the past summer, I am hoping to get a job at genentech, or really just a decent paying job for now. Anyone have any leads? Names of recruiters at companies? TIA!

yeah i work in biotech. pm me and i'll get you some names of recruiters.
i worked at bio-rad as a chemist for about 6 months. they suck. if you want to do real research, look elsewhere.

dood...ALL Bio and Pharm companies treat their scientists like crap. they only value the marketing and sales people. My sis is director of marketing and has like 30 PhDs under her making half the salary with sucky benefits.
My sister is also a manager/director or marketing and sales for a biotech company. She's says it really pays to get a masters. The field is pretty impacted and the jobs you can get w/ a BA are lower paying. Yeah, my sister has a PHD also.
If your interested in Genentech, my wife is a scientist there and would be happy to put your resume in to HR. Check out their website and see if there is anything you like the look of in their recruiting section, if there is let me know.
The weal amewican hewo!

we're hiring at my company for a research associate in structural biology aka crystallography...same group i am in...company name is Plexxikon and its an ok company...pm me if you have any questions but personally if you can try to get into genentech go for it....if you interned at bio-rad and the ppl you worked for liked you, maybe try there also...they often give full-time jobs to interns since they are familiar with the system...gluck in finding a job

Hey everyone, thanks for the tips. I worked as a research intern at Bio-Rad, very industry minded and commercialized. I would definitely consider going back to Bio-Rad, although in a different department. My supervisor was really nice and we got a long really well, its just I am not sure if I want to do research. I am looking into positions in sales/marketing. I plan to get an MBA in the future, after a few years of work. I need to update my resume and then I'll send it out. I appreciate everyones' help!

In the research area, Genentech won't give you the highest salary in the Bay Area. They make up for it in the "total package" -- that is salary, health coverage, emloyee stock purchasing program, stock options, bonuses, etc. If you've been watching the stock, you can see how that makes up for the slightly lower salary. Since it's a big company, there's also room for growth/career changes that may not be available at some of the smaller companies. They also have a good corporate atmosphere and treat their employees well.
What type of research position were you interested in? Hope your screeen name does not reflect your work ethic

It wasn't too bad last year when Elton John came and did a private concert for the employees..Mary J Blige and Matchbox 20 were the support acts.
