Yup, 4x140. Here is the web page with all the wheels that fit the 4x140:

Personally im trying to find a set of these for my '78: http://www.ultimatesubaru.net/80s/wh...5-8spoke-2.jpg
I already got some of these with rather new tires for mega cheap ($120) at pick and pull: http://www.ultimatesubaru.net/80s/wh...dsnowflake.jpg

The picture posted is definitely not an '88. The car in the ad has an EA82, the one posted has an EA81. Conversions for those cars aren't easy (I also had an '88 RX, so trust me, I've looked into it), and not cheap. They do make very, very reliable daily drivers and really, really fun beaters though.
Unfortunately it's really hard to find aftermarket wheels for the 4x140 bolt pattern. Only Subaru and Pugeot used that bolt pattern, so about the only wheels you can use are old Pug wheels or these certain Enkeis that are extremely difficult to find. The other option is to swap over the suspension from a late 80's XT6, but the parts are a PITA to get and it's expensive.
Anyway, long story short, GLs are awesome, reliable little cars, but not the best option if you're looking for an easy project. However, with enough money, you can do anything.
