For those that are true Hip-Hop heads, come check out my blog spot. I think most of you have heard about Kevvy Kev and the DRUM show on KZSU Stanford. And if you like what you hear from there, post a comment up. Peace.

As far as hip-hop goes, I listen to errrthang. I don't really hate on much these days. Grab a cup of coffee cuz I love talking about rap music. Besides the standard issue Pac, Biggie, Nas, Jay-Z list. I'd support my local stuff like Hiero, Blackalicious, Lyrics Born, and what not. I grew up listening to Sick Wid It label that dominated half of the early 90's (E-40, B-Legit, Suga-T, Celly Cel, etc, etc). LOVE Mac Mall. I'm cool with the hyphy movement and fire up the Mistah FAB or Federation stuff on the iPod from time to time. Love for LA with Dilated Peoples, J5, Pharcyde, Xzibit, etc. One of my favorite producers, Alchemist, is from LA. Even don't mind the Jerk scene with that New Boyz joint. Cannot, CANNOT ignore the birth of (real) gangsta rap with Snoop, NWA, Westside Connection, etc.
I dig the south, wasn't a HUGE fan of the chopped n' screwed stuff out of Texas years back, I'll admit. Really dug Scarface and Geto Boys (I loved listening to Bushwick Bill's interviews on TV). Big fan of OutKast, who I think were the hottest thing out of the ATL, EVER. T.I.'s pretty good, Jeezy's my guilty pleasure. I listen to stuff here and there that's got that southern swang to it. I used to talk mad crazy about Cash Money's stuff, but man, I can't help, but love a lot of Mannie Fresh's work. Florida's got me with the late 80's, early 90's Miami bass stuff. 2 Live Crew especially. Flo Rida and Pitbull, IMO, is "kinda" bringing back that kind of party music. Celph Titled from the Demigodz is from Tampa, FL. That man's got some of the most entertaining and quotable punchlines I've ever heard. Jin (Tha MC)'s also from FL (now Hong Kong, dig the Canto-rap, LOL).
Out of the midwest, Detroit's got Slum Village (RIP Baatin), Royce da 5'9", Eminem. J Dilla's a legend, as far as sampling records go (outside of Pete Rock, to me). At some point, I even indulged in some Juggalo stuff with Insane Clown Posse. Crazy, insane, funny music. Chicago's got Kanye (duh), Common, Twista's "okay", dabbled in a bit of Do Or Die, then Kidz in the Hall, Lupe gets regular spins in the Subaru. HUGE fan of Cool Kids (one dude's from Detroit, other's from Chicago, I think?). Then there's a phase where I listened to a lot of Bone Thugs n' Harmony. Could not understand 80% of what they said. That double timed flow blew my freakin' mind. Well, until I heard Twista's world record breaking clips. Haha. Speaking of Cleveland, I'm warming up to Kid Cudi.
I'd cover New York, but there's way too many bases for me to touch here. KRS, Rakim, Gang Starr, LL, Wu-Tang, Big L (hell, the whole DITC), Papoose (I seriously think he's going to get shelved by his label), Busta Rhymes, MOP (love that in your face grimy, stick-up kids music), there's a TON I could name here. I miss the old Mobb Deep stuff, really bad. Go further up in Canada, you got Kardinal Offishall, k-os, and recently, Drake. In Philly, you got The Roots, Freeway, Cassidy, Bahamadia, Jedi Mind Tricks, etc. Then Demigodz (Apathy) out of Connecticut. Go further down, in Virginia, you got Skillz (love the annual year end "rap-up"), Missy Elliot, and my favorite, CLIPSE. The Neptunes and Timbaland's from VA, I always liked a lot of their work. Out in the UK, you got Dizzy Rascal and Lady Sovreign with that grime/electronic stuff. Out in Asia, I dug Drunken Tiger (Korea) and Teriyaki Boyz (Japan). I already mentioned Jin, who's now doing really well in HK.
I truly think that I approach hip-hop in a way where I just want to absorb everything from all regions and popularity. I try not to have a snob-like mentality about it either because I might miss out on some good stuff out there. I feel everything deserves at least a spin out of me. Hip-hop's been my best friend since I was 10. Dabbled in random hip-hop stuff like graffin', went through a breakin' phase. I still do some poppin', real fun. Learned how to DJ a lil' a while back. I can't write or rap, but I did try at some point. It was a hilarious failure, so I stuck with making beats for a while. The moment I heard Ice Cube's "Steady Mobbin'" on KMEL, I didn't turn back since. Sorry about the HUUUUGGEEE name-dropping post. =)

About 5-6 years ago, my friend popped in their "Pangea" album in his car. Pretty dope stuff. I think the whole album's clean too, you wouldn't know it if an emcee spits real nice, BTW. LOL.

currently vibin to some Jurasic5 before bed. always kills it
and if you dont feel this verse then hip hop just isnt your thing
nas-it aint hard to tell
The buddha monk's in your trunk, turn the bass up
Not stories by Aesop, place your loot up, parties I shoot up
Nas, I analyze, drop a jew-el, inhale from the L
School a fool well, you feel it like braille
It ain't hard to tell, I kick a skill like Shaquille holds a pill
Vocabulary spills I'm +Ill+
plus +Matic+, I freak beats slam it like Iron Shiek
Jam like a tech with correct techniques
So analyze me, surprise me, but can't magmatize me
Scannin' while you're plannin' ways to sabotage me
I leave em froze like her-on in your nose
Nas'll rock well, it ain't hard to tell
