EDIT: I just want to make this perfectly clear, I'm proposing this activity JUST TO HAVE FUN & give everyone an opportunity to meet some new faces/hang out.
So, please don't be shy or afraid to chime/join in! I/no one else is looking to get rich or bankrupt people!
Interested Parties So Far:
02BlackWRX: Poker or Blackjack
Shadowcat: Poker or Blackjack
Scoobyboy: Poker or Blackjack
Mmboost: Poker (sorry you can play MJ w/my neighbors!)
EJ25RS: Blackjack
CLsmooth71 (moi'): Poker, Blackjack, hopscotch (Really, I'm pretty good!)
Hi everyone,
I used to play cards w/a bunch of my S. Cal buddies once every few weeks and am wondering if any of you would be interested in having a "BAIC poker/card night?" I'm originally from the Bay Area and know a couple of guys, who'd be down to play, but most of the guys we used to round up are under lockdown (NO, not jail but VERY simililar circumstances..."ball & chain!")
Anyways, I think this activity would be kinda fun and give everyone a chance to put some faces to some of the names. Please post/reply if interested, so (we) can get a headcount.
Btw, here are a couple details I think should be announced:
---This invitation is open to "everyone." Guys and ladies are welcome to play, but I think it'd be a good idea to ask that only those ****18+ over participate**** I don't want anyone's parents or the cops tracking me down for keeping the young'ns out past curfew, etc!
---This would definitely have to be held on a Fri or Sat night to accomodate work schedules, etc. Depending on how much interest there is, I'd like to shoot for having the poker/card night maybe once a month. But I guess we'll see when/if anyone is interested in having the first one
---We probably would need at least 5 ****CONFIRMED**** players for the first game/night and then 7-10 "I'll show ups" for the following events to get a good game going and avoid being shorthanded (in case people flake out or cancel).
---Oh, I guess this is kinda important...YES, we'll be playing for $$$. But, NO, I am not looking to furnish my house or hustle/bankrupt anyone!
I usually play about $1/chip w/my buddies but have played as little as $.05/chip w/girls and new players. We can play however big or small everyone wants. I'm suggesting this activity just to have fun and get some non-auto related recreation. I know a lot of you need to do stuff besides hide out in your cubicles at work or under your hoods in the garage!
Well, hope this takes off, and there's some interest.
Peace
CL

Sure, I'm up for a poker night. I play pretty much straight up texus hold'em (I also play 7 stud, but it takes too long). I don't like wild card games... no fun, too much luck and no skill involved. I usually play $3/$6 hold'em with $1 chips, blinds are $1/$3, $100 buy in (5 stacks/1 rack), but I'm game for as low as a simple $1/$2, $0.50 chips, blinds $0.50/$1 if people don't want to play that high. Now, if people DO want to play high, I'm game for up to $9/$18 (usual buy in is $300, 1 rack).

Hey Zoeb,
Thanks for taking the plunge and being the first to throw your hat in. I guess everyone else is just shy--10 other views, but no takers?
There's gotta be more people down for some friendly games!
Peace
CL

btw, Shadowcat, good to see another Hold 'em player out there, but I think we should keep things friendly & fun (not to say high-stakes poker isn't GREAT!)
I just don't want to discourage new players or anyone in general. Main purpose of me suggesting this is just to have fun!
But I definitely could go for some juicier games...drop me a line....I've been known to play a "few" higher stakes games in my day.

Hey, like I said, I have no problems playing low stakes. For a $20 buy in, can do 100 chip texas hold'em pot limit tourney or some sort, winner take most, second takes the rest
. Each person puts in $20, gets 100 chips (that's 20 cent chips), play until someone has all the chips, standard elimination.
That may be a bit too advanced to start out, but it's certainly low enough stakes for people to play.
We can also just do 20 cent chips, $20 buy in, 3/6 hold'em. No where close to the 10/20 (mid stakes) or 300/600 (high stakes) games I've seen.
But I firmly believe that if someone wants to learn how to play poker, they should start with 7 stud or texas hold'em. It involves a lot of skill, and luck still plays a big part.

Now, this is not to say that I'm against making the games "interesting." I think it does help to peak/hold everyone's interest when there's something at stake, but for now, we should just keep things simple and friendly
We haven't even got a full headcount of those interested yet, but who knows, if there's enough heads, we can have a couple games going.....lower stakes for beginners or those just coming out to mess around AND a higher stakes game for the "sharks!"

Peace
CL

C'mon guys,
I know you guys are a little "excited" and messing around, but I really don't wanna discourage other people from replying/wanting to play.
I'm not trying to be a downer or rule this thing, but I really think a lot of people are gonna pass or be reluctant to play w/all this talk about "high stakes" and $$$.
I really just want this "poker/card night" thing to be fun and FOR EVERYONE--beginners, ladies (I do know a couple that like to play), etc. I do enjoy and have played poker for YEARS, incl high stakes games, but there's a time and place for those...cardhouses, Vega$, etc.
Again, if the MAJORITY of people interested wanna play higher stakes, fine, but let's hold off on going crazy until we get this first event under our belt!
Peace

hey, I SAID I was down for 20 cent chips and a $20 buy in... nice and low stakes. If you REALLY want to go low, $10 buy in, 10 cent chips. And like you said, it's all for fun anyway. Games with such low stakes are good for learning and fun, not for "making money." Just have to remember that the chip value doesn't matter, it's the chip itself. It's the only way beginners can learn to evaluate the hand risk, pot odds, etc, and really learn how to play good solid poker. I'll even be happy to teach beginners how to play correctly, proper table ettiqette, etc.

Shadow,
I gotcha the first time around. Not trying to call you out...it's just that 52 Views & only the 4 of us replying/expressing interest? Seems like there are people getting discouraged w/all this kidding around about playing for high stakes.
Anyways, I PM'd you about having some more "serious" games if you're really interested.
Peace
