We literally ordered a Brirax and recaro to compare. Ended up returning the Britax. In really most people don't check out both in person. The Recaro works great rear facing and does work with the latch system. The side impact protection is much better than the Britax and it's at least as sturdy all around. I will totally admit that the Recaro name was a plus point, but it was the last priority on our list.

this.

most kids will outgrow the infant seat by length not by the weight maximum.

Yeah my daughter was hanging out pretty quick. She grew way tall way fast. Not so much now. She's slowing down. LOL! They were saying she'd be like 5'7" I think she'll be more like 5'3".... maybe. LOL!

The best rated 2 years ago was the Chicco Key Fit, the infant seat was good till 30 pounds. At one, we bought my son the Britax. Giant, sturdy, well built car seat. It'll be his car seat till we need to put him into a booster. Was the best rated and safest at the time we purchased it. But it's not very portable to take on a plane with you.
We bought the Chicco Key Fit based off its ratings, and we love it. Plus its red so it matches our wagon.

I agree though, function over form when it comes to child seats.

My pediatrician said it doesn't matter about their legs going up the seat since its their heads and necks you need to worry most about.
