What was the average course time (a minute?)? Good luck with being competitive though; yeah the WRX has the power, but you have around 400 lbs less weight (meaning you're really going to have to kill them on time in the slaloms and transitional turns). The cars to beat in STX are E30 M3s, WRXs and Mini Cooper Ses.

Yeah. Something like that. If I remember correctly, the curb weight is 2760 and some for the AT. I think I'll need to find a way to keep my pace up, because my car doesn't really have that kick. The SF course was about a minute long. The Oakland course was like low 40's.

So due to the protest, the 1st place person's car had an engine tear-down. Ironically, not only was the engine completely stock according to the stock rules, but the person was down on compression for one of the cylinders. The 2nd place person wound up having to pay for the teardown and the engine rebuild. However, it's still a pain in the butt for the 1st place person.

The last issue to resolve, I got 59.3 seconds. Horrible time as I understeered badly (oversped turning in) at the last corner of the 1st timed lap and the S-turn during the 2nd time lap. I'm not bringing up an issue because I got beaten and am a sore loser (never expected to win anything as a saw a VW R32 with Kumho V710 slicks and koni shocks for DS).

Why didnt you ***** at them also? SHOCKS and SLICKS would up them out of Ds.... Now im just a TAD annoyed...... So a VW was in D-stock with slicks and shocks, and people are *****ing at me for something like rims... Wow....

The reason I didn't whine is because I never got into a debate with the R32 owner. Also, like I said, this issue raising is more of a heads-up as oppose to complaining to someone. It would suck for people here to be shafted because of mis-interpretation of the rules. Lastly, the R32 is DS legal.

In SCCA stock classes, cars are allowed to change the tires (must be DOT legal), front swaybar and mounting hardware, catback exhaust, up to 5 mm offset of the wheels over OEM wheels (due to either aftermarket wheel design or the use of spacers) and shocks (no more than 2 external adjusters, must not change stock suspension geometry and maintain the same spring perch height and utilize stock springs; so no coil springs of the same rate). The R32 was running Kumho Ecsta V710 slicks, which are DOT legal (Ecsta V series and Hoosiers work around this rule by putting 1 or two very shallow reads on the tire, making it DOT legal).

Unfortunately, Victoracers V700/V710 and Hoosiers A6/R6 are all DOT legal, Race-compound tires. Since most of DS group that day was running summer-only and all-season tires, it's kinda expected we'd get slaughtered. For stock classes, THE most improving mod is to put on these R-compound tires. Again, they're legit since they are D.O.T. legal. Here's a link to see how they're pretty much tailored for autocrossing and other race-venues that require D.O.T. legal tires: http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....del=Ecsta+V710

So, an example of a WRX that's modded to the full limit of D Stock would be one that has 16" x 6.5" custom-made, forged wheels (I believe CCW can make some, although $$$) with at most a 5 mm offset over the stock WRX wheels (17" x 7.0" for the 2006MY+ WRX), double adjustable koni shocks fitted into the stock strut housings (meaning separate rebound and compression adjusters), a Cobb Tuning catback exhaust and a 27 mm Whiteline front swaybar.

The VW R32 was a nasty piece of work because it had all the bits (except don't know about the front swaybar since I couldn't see it) as it had custom stock size wheels shodded on Kumho Ecsta V710, a catback exhaust and koni single-adjustable shocks. Just seeing the car, I knew that the rest of us D Stockers on summer and all-season tires were boned. My car is still in the process of being modded to full D Stock levels, and its still running on all season tires.

I'm pretty sure people are scratching their heads about these "stock" rules. Again, SCCA makes them and they can't please everyone.

Here's a thread on a group of 2006MY WRX TR owners who are out to prove that the car can win SCCA National Championship D Stock class against the Integra Type Rs and the E46 330is: http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=939497

I'm sorry but rules apply to EVERYONE... If your car is less modified, then how can you complain??

Also, I drive a 2.5 RS in STX and am extremely competitive. Enough to win trophies, even a win series. This year i'm trying to make a come from behind attempt at a championship series. It's totally possible.

Seriously. I think I am slow... because I drive slow. I think am improving though. I think every run, I learn something new which I try to apply to the next run.

now its funny how u were telling impreza01 how you do all these SCCA events (maybe to make you look better or whatever)... but you have no idea what the rules are... i say be quiet now ... read the rules and come back with questions.. instead of interpreting the rules your own way

we arent causing any drama for you .... we are just giving an idea of where u should be and how things work... so others in the future dont bother you about legality

Gagan is a great driver in his 2.5! and thats considered an underdog car in that class ... so you have some inspiration there darkonion....

as for me.... i still need lots of work.. i still cry on the drive home from events hahaa

Some inspiration... but there still is a huge gap in power. Probably 20 hp or something. I guess that's a lot when you only have 137 at the crank.
