you can't buy a money order with a credit card...a money order is like a cashiers check, which is like cash

you can't purchase cash

Is this an in person deal? If not then be wary of "only take cash or money order"

a lot of banks will only write a money order up to $1000. Anything over that requires multiple money orders or a cashier's check

Actually there is no law or regulation that limits the amount of a personal money order and most banks will actually do up to $2500 on a money order.

Check cashing places and grocery stores are the places that usually have a $1K limit, or $500 depending on where you go.
