anybody work for an insurance company?
I'm curious if anybody here works in insurance, or specifically if anybody here does work or has worked as a claims adjuster for any type of carrier. If you do, do you like it, or would you recommend it?
Another reason I ask is because, as everybody is well aware, the economy sucks and it's tough to get a job right now, especially for recent college grads like myself. I'm working as a legal assistant right now but looking for other stuff, and it's been rough going.
I applied for a position as a field adjuster for Farmers Insurance in Santa Rosa, which seems to have great pay, and I'm very leery of the fact that the interview process seems to be moving too quickly and easily to be true.

I used to be a claims adjuster for a big insurance company.
I assume you're going into the automotive claims side? It's a fun job unless you get too many claims in one day; at that point, expect a LOT of overtime and a fair amount of stressing to get things done. Luckily, I do know that Farmers pays for you overtime per hour, so if you don't mind working longer hours, you can make a lot of money.
Also, expect to spend about 95% of your time in the field looking at wrecks, and expect knuckleheads to argue with you about 65% of the time over stupid things. If you're into cars, you'll be more interested in the job, and that knowledge can come in really handy sometimes.
Let me know if there's anything else you'd like to know.
