While making a u-turn left or right or when i back up into a parking spot only when the car is warmed up i hear and feel it in the steering wheel a loud clunking noise repeatedly any ideas what this dreadfull noise could be ??

Mine used to do that when I had an axle going out...I think. Can't remember.

 

mine does the same thing because my coilovers need to be taken apart and fixed. i was told they were binding.

 

I've got a similar sound and I'm almost certain its the axle

New coilovers, bearing is fine

 

Fasho thanks for the input gona take it to the shop and get it checked out im crosing my fingers that its not the differential we'll see

 

My guess would also be an axle. The passenger side front axle boot usually tears quickest. Had the same issue with my car at ~120K miles.

Yea mine went out twice in the first 30k.

 

Took it to subaru the other day after multiple multiple test drive with many "master techs" they finally i hope pin pointed the problem witch is a rear cupler located in the back part of the tranny supposedly 1600 crap :-\

 

Brand new coils will bind if the preload is set too high. Its not the bearing that causes it. The spring can't freely spin when turning the wheels. So it will get stuck and then "pops" when it finally moves.

 

Interesting, I never knew that was the reason why I always heard clunking on my right side.

The weird thing is that I only hear it on my the passenger side and not the driver side and I set the preload the same on each coil. Any ideas?

 

You can put a little WD40 on the spring perches or remove a bit of preload. There are different weights applied to each corner of the car.

Which is why when corner balancing things may not be set exactly the same at each corner in order to get even weight distribution.

 

Same exact noise happened with old coils, it's something else

Only after car has been driven a long time, always after freeway but never just on city streets
