Any DSL gurus here?
My DSL line keeps getting disconnected every time the phone rings or a call is received/made. I have DSL filters installed on every phone jack with a phone connected (2 if you're wondering). One's a 5.8ghz phone/answering machine, and the other is a simple touch tone phone. I've had both these phones for years and haven't had a problem getting disconnected until now.
I've changed both DSL filters (Excelsus Z-Blocker model Z-330P2J) with brand new ones (same model) that was provided with the DSL kit when I signed up years ago. Still having the same problem.
I'm with AT&T DSL. The modem is a Speedstream 5100.
Anybody know how to fix this problem before I call AT&T?
And yes I know Cable is better/teh fastAr.

It could be so many things but I'm going to call the likely culprit as interference. Either interference from the phone into the phoneline or some kind of interference with the call and the DSL. You're going to need to have a tech come out and check all the lines for noise/interference. There could be damage to one or more of the phonelines in your walls or the jacks could be ****ed up. So many things.
DSL is very finicky technology and honestly just peice of ****. You should really do yourself a favor and look into Cable internet. Not just for the sake of FASTER FASTER FASTER.

Yes, while it would be nice to have cable, it's also $130 extra per year out of my pocket if I went with cable. I don't d/l or play online games enough to justify that increase right now.

my issue was wires that were not tied down to the stampbox. i had them come out three times before i figured out it was my own fault for not tightening screws.
that being said, you might need to install a direct line to your router/modem. that way there is no bandwidth lost to other parts of the house. also, what they tell you comes into the house, does not mean thats what your router/modem gets. there is a large loss from house to computer, its just fact.
also, check how far you are from the central office. ADSL only works 3000 ft from the point of origin, meaning if you live past 2500 feet, weather and other random factors will affect the line.

is the dsl cutting out or your wifi? does it disconnect when conected by hardwire? i would disconnect each phone to find hte culprit and maybe change your router's wireless configuration to a or b and see if it occurs. not answers but worth a try before wasting hours on the phone with at&t trying to troubleshoot over hte phone (they will do this before sending someone out)..
