when i got tuned at GST, Mike told me to stop using Chevron and to start using 76. something about Chevron isnt as clean as 76 and it was causing me to pull timing. so from that day on i have been using 76.
76 all the time for me, chevron if its a real bind, stay away from everything else
1. shell
2. 76
3. chevron
i have ALWAYS gotten better gas mileage on shell and my car seems to run stronger, for instance a week ago, i got 398 miles to a tank.. came out to 27 mpg...also, i dont know if this is true or not, but i have heard that the additive chevron uses ( techron)...our engines dont like it to too much.. however i have used chevron on occasion and only had a problem when i 1st got my car

I'm not that picky. I believe for the most part the top brands perform about the same. I do believe, however, that you're more likely to get a bad tank at shell or chevron than you are at 76. Its a matter of consistency rather than overall quality IMO.
Midnite is right, Techron is not good for a lot of engines (ie: Mercedes and Subaru).
The best gas you can buy for day to day driving is Shell, next is 76. Getting Chevron... well you might as well just go to the discount places and save yourself the money, you're hurting your car just as much. Engines don't like cheap dirty gas.
The closest gas station to me is Arco and normally sells for $2.97 - $3.01. But I drive the extra 3 miles to fill up at Shell for an extra $.03 - $.05/gallon.

Thats debateable. Heard quite a few stories of cars knocking on the dyno and coming up short in terms of power numbers due to bad tanks from Shell
I think Ed is right, overall quality may be similar, but 76 is much more consistent tank to tank
