Then again, I will be doing my RS/L swap myself. If I could pay to have an RSTI or RSWRX swap done I would probably buy a car with a clean swap already done and BAR'ed.

If the car was in perfect condition, meaning un-crashed with motor/tranny in running order with 119k on it, it would NOT be worth more then $4,500, and even then that'd be kinda steep and if they were looking for that much the car would have to be CLEAN without great paint, good condition all around and unmodified.
The guy def added an extra zero in there. You can easily buy a used WRX for that much, and I'm not talking about a 10 year old car either, I mean a 2005 or something like that with like 70k miles on it. (I'd say a 2005 WRX in good condition with 70k miles on it would go for around $10,500 or so, especially considering that it's over 5 years old and a few body styles older). For an old RS like that, he's lucky to get $1000 for it in that condition.

No way, if it were a 2000 MT Silverthorn 2.5 RS coupe in good condition it would go for over $5K here in the bay easy. Probably more.

If you're going to do a swap into an RS, you need to upgrade A LOT of parts which includes everything from the brakes to the motor and everything in between, not to mention suspension upgrades and chassis upgrades (like a weld-in cage to stiffen up the VERY flexible chassis).
I never thought I'd say what I just said, but I said it... After having an RS in various states for 9+ years and having an 06WRX and 07STi, I can honestly say that I'd never go back to an RS unless it was done absolutely right with an STi motor/drive train with a weld-in cage that would make the car feel proper.
I can't fight the fact that the RS was smaller and better looking though... Now if it only had come with the proper engine/tranny and 400% stiffer chassis, then I'd eat my words and still be driving my 2000 RS right now.
In good shape with low miles, the car can be considered a collectors car but it's rare to find one in REALLY good shape nowadays. The 2000 and 2001 were the good years (stupid DOHC of the 1998 and the MAF of the 1999!). The earlier years made good shells for swaps however, but like I said, even if one were to swap a turbo drivetrain into the old N/A body, you still suffer from SEVERE body flex and the car suffers from more squeaks, rattles, and buzzing then any other car that I've ever driven, ESPECIALLY when you have an increased level of power which makes the already flexy body like rubber.
People name ridiculous prices all the time, you know,"there's a sucker around every corner"... His asking price is obviously super inflated but having been an RS owner for the past 11 years I understand how much he values his car

Who in their right mind would pay 5k for a 2000 silverthorn RS? As much as I love the GC, it's far inferior to the GD chassis in terms of just about everything but weight. There's so much chassis flex that when you swap a more powerful engine into it the car feels like it's going to rip in half, so unless you have a cage the car feels really awful with more HP.

(I dunno, maybe it's because all of the 10 year old RS' that I've seen have been beat to hell? I'm not comparing the RS to a new STi, just the GD chassis all together. Don't get me wrong, I loved my RS and still love it even though it's not mine anymore... A car with 120k miles on it and of that genre of cars has probably been owned by people like you and me which means it was beat to hell... Just the paint on my old RS looked like it was 50 years old even though it was garaged and kept in a car port... The car just looked a lot worse then a civic of equal year... I guess you're right if you can find a car in great condition. I still stand by my statement and say "shut up krinkov! Shut up REAL GOOD!!". ;P)

unrelated to your post, but it bugs me when people try to re-sell modifications on cars. Like if they spent 10k in mods on a 3k car and try to sell it for 12k, it just doesn't work that way and people just don't believe me and still try to sell it for what they paid! Like when people add up horse power numbers by adding the theoretical HP numbers of each part, like if an intake is supposed to give you 15hp and a full header-back exhaust gives you 30hp they assume that they have an extra 45hp automatically on an N/A car.
