haha did the same thing once. Was coming back from town to my house and a few inches of snow had already piled on the road and I was on nearly bald re070's. Had to go 25 and less for sure. Big lesson was not to use the brakes at all on bald slicks! lol

Wish I could afford to rock some back up wheels with blizzaks but most likely I'll be on some ASX's. Best M/S tire for the dough unless I can come up on some used pzero's.

I drove around in the snow for a few days on my bald 070's. haaa. nothing like driving around on hockey pucks. Certainly made donuts in the parking lot a snap....

I keep hearing how good blizzaks are. I have Nokian Hakkapalitas (try and say that
) that I got in a trade. I've been very happy with the snow/dirt grip they offer. Been easily travelling the snow covered roads at 50+mph and through the curves. Before I had the Nokians, I have some Toyo Proxes 4 m/s and I can't possibly say enough about how great these tires were in the snow. I had amazing grip and they handled very well on the pavement as well. Good choice for all-seasons.

Never had to replace snow tires before, but in NY you don't really need them because the snow is different and everyone has front wheel drive. I plan on changing them at the recommended tread though. I think tread depth is more important in snow tires because that's what makes them work in snow, deep treads. I've heard of some people just using their snow tires for summer tires when they're too bald for snow though. Kinda ghetto but whatever works I guess.
I had Proxes 4 before the current set of Pilot Sport A/S. The Proxes were better on every surface -- I haven't been too impressed with the Pilots for Tahoe runs, and I'll probably get some real snow tires for this season since we plan to be in a cabin with a nice steep driveway.
My buddy is running his dunlop winter sports 3Ds (I think thats what they are) almost bald and he says he noticed a little different last winter. but are still way better then his all terrains he was running before. The first half of the tread on snow tires is way softer then the second half.. thats why they recommend that.
