All this Facebook IPO talk got me wondering
I found my dad after 24 years of never knowing who he was and now stay contacted with him... I guess you can say facebook helps you find family you've never actually met.

I joined it when it was called "thefacebook" way back when only a handful of universities were allowed to access it. It's not my main method of staying "in touch" with the people I want to stay connected with, but I mainly use it as a repository of information and articles. The privacy issues are my main concerns regarding it, and I think it's perfectly fine to not use it at all (same goes with twitter). If could I truly "delete" my account, I would.

i find it weirder the people who dont get a facebook profile because everyone else has one
its just easy to find people and to be able to contact someone who you dont have their phone number within a few seconds
like i found one of my best friends from elementary school who i lost contact with because he moved to another state..it would have been way harder to find him otherwise
NOW, on the other hand, people who spend all day on fb posting pictures and tagging themselves at locations and letting people know EVERYTHING they are doing...thats just a whole other story haha
i sign into facebook maybe once a month

I like Facebook but really it only tells me how many friends I have who I don't care about. More so aquaintances but still, I don't really talk to anyone on there except maybe 40-50.

There are many uses for FB. People use it for:
- like a Twitter
- time wasting (games)
- a better way to share links than spamming your friends/family with emails
- finally, a "universal" account that you don't have to worry your friend's email is now an abandoned account.
- keeping up with your favorite businesses and organizations when you feel like it, all in the one place
Key thing is, you don't have to be twitter-like FB user; and the more mature FB user knows this.

I was still waiting for the second word.
BTW Volkey, has FB even found a way to sufficiently monetize itself yet? It needs to start making some real money now they they're going to have shareholders to answer to, I know they've been making enough to cover operations with the bit of advertising and selling users public data, but not nearly enough to account for how (over)valued they are, and they also have all the original venture capital, they've been waiting patiently for years for their big payday. Have a feeling things are going to change for all us users soon.

I connected with family overseas that I haven't seen or heard of in 20+ years. Also, good way to stay updated with events and such.
Its a very valuable tool. Those that don't use it are depriving themselves, all because what? it's popular and trendy? lol
