Do they offer an entry-level beginner's kit? This sounds interesting, and something I would like to do......but with some heavy clothing to reduce the hurt!

well, the ak i mentioned is when i play outdoor like in santa cruz or something. I dont usually see people play with them. everyone has m15 and m4s ... so i'm gonna toss it up .. use an ak, there are also advantages to it, bigger capacity mag, longer barrel = longer range and more accuracy. CS has got the gun down. It's super accurate if you burst but if you start spraying. It's accuracy just all goes to hell. For indoor games. I"m gonna have my p22 or a m9, with a p90, the only thing i dont like about the p90 is it's all plastic body, and you can't find a metal body for it because the real p90 comes with a plastic body ... *sigh* other than that, i'm loving the look of it. The other contender for close combat would be the AK beita spetsnaz, the thing is great, metal body stock and the feel of it is incredible. The only thing is the damn russians had to make it so the safety is super long so you'd have to take you finger out and move it to safety. That's only like 2 seconds lost tho so not a big deal. What do you guys think? Which short range rifles would you guys recommend?

.. man i'm like totally advertising for them but what the hell. You can rent your gear there, it's 35 bucks for 2 hrs and 45 for all day if you rent gear. and 25 for 2 hrs and 35 for all day if you bring your own. Rentals include a full face mask with lip protector, a m4 and 2 mags. I would suggest wearing long sleeve. and some knee pads wouldn't hurt, i know i'm getting some.

If you want to buy local a good place is Airsoft Extreme they are down in san jose.

There are a ton of other online dealers. Just realize that half of them are in Hong Kong and so they will have much cheaper prices but shipping costs a lot more.

Dre got me interested in airsoft but then I realized I could run into asshats that think they know everything. Seems a lot of people wear all that hi-tech equipment and let it go to their head like they’re the real thing. I once saw an online photo of an airsoft group posing in Army class “A’s” as U.S. Army Rangers. Made me upset so I sold my M4 and equipment as a result.

That's just the thing though... airsoft would be fun if you had a reasonable group of non-posers like ish, and if you had a decent place to play (vacant building, creek thicket, etc.). But the Sacramento area is dead in the water on both those requirements so I gave it up.

I understand exactly what you mean. The reason I started playing was because I didn't know many people out here that played paintball and knew a few that did airsoft. Plus airsoft is cheaper. the bb's are way cheaper than paint and don't go bad over time. Plus its easier to recharge a battery than keep refilling your air tanks.

Yeah, I am not one to get all GI-Joe "Gung-Ho" on anyone - I am just out to have a good time screwing around. I know there are groups out there with the whole "I am better than you ***-attitude"

If we could get a little crew together that is chill, but down to do some airsoft stuff, I would definitely be in for a San Jose area event.

AEX (airsoft extreme) has many stores. One just opened up like 3 weeks ago in oakland. I talked to the guys there, very cool people. I'd recommend anyone to go up there, you can test fire any gun you want so it's great.

... man, as far as that all fully equiped people goes, they might think they are better but it's not really the case, at least when your playing indoor. I was playing with a group of 4 that were suited with gernade luncher, shotguns, crazy mp5 and AE max carbines (700 bucks) .. and me and my buds had rental m4s ... we were pretty even.
Like you said, i was just out there to have fun. and of course shoot the **** out of my friends lol ><

I'd say the best part was when me and my friend had the whole place to ourselves, we borrowed these guys' vest and hand guns and just went at it with 1v1 hand guns. That **** was great fun.
