Exclamation AH!! 911!! My transmission is freaking out.

So on my way way to BART this morning my transmission freaked out. I came up to a red light and stopped, and went to go into first but it wouldnt go in. I pumped the clutch a few times, it felt fine. Turned my car off and then back on, didnt know if it would help but it was all i could think of at the time. So i finaly just pushed it threw the intersection and down the road some and figured id try again. It went into first like normal and i was able to get into the parking lot and park my car.

Has this ever happend to anyone? What could it be? I dont race around or anything and i just 2k miles. Its under warenty but i dont want to take it to stevens****creek even though i live across the street from it, Id rather take it somewhere that does good work and wont jerk me around. If anyone can help me out that would be great.

You have a '08. Take it to the dealer. Probably have a sticky pilot bearing.

I havent followed this much if its a common issue. Pilot bearing? Not the TOB?

The TOB give the pressure plate something to ride on when the clutch is disengaged. The pilot bearing take the end of the tranny input shaft. If everything is working properly the motor runs with the clutch disengaged and the flywheel spinning around the input shaft. Very little rotational motion should be transfered to the tranny. This allows your syncros to be engaged. If the pilot bearing is sticking the input shaft could very likely be rotating with the flywheel ever so slightly. Most modern transmission have safety features that more or less lock out 1st and R if the car is in motion. It's likely In this case the car is not in motion but the input shaft to the tranny is.

This is a shot in the dark, but considering the age of the vehicle. Not much else comes to mind.

Does that explain things?

Let them figure it out. The pilot is just my guess. Did you try to place it in N with clutch engaged rev, clutch in, and shift. If it goes into gear it's probably the Pilot.

that sucks....take it to the dealer TJ. i hope its minor. just pray its not like those reported about the new 08 M3 w/ oil leak from the heads, less than 2k and the whole motor overhaul is needed.
