I have. It's not easy. Steroids or no steroids I couldn't do what bonds does....or probably what a lot of these lower level guys do. I was an above average player in my youth. I think that if I got back in shape I could outfield half the pros...or more. But that doesn't mean I could hit a homerun off of a guy that throws a 97mph fastball. 95 mph splitter. 83 mph curveball..etc. Good luck keeping up with that.

Cal Ripken Jr. retired at the age of 41?

How many games did he really play after the age of 40 in the field????

I'll tell you. 149. 9 as a PH and 25 as a DH. So truly played in 111. and not all of them are complete games.

Bonds...pretty similar...so far.

if you really wanted to prove a point you should have used Julio Franco.

players do do it but not often.

I played 13 years of ball starting when I was 5 years old. I should have tried playing in college but I pussed out and didn't.

I hit plenty of home runs in high school and they were off of people throwing 85+ fastballs. once you get over a certain speed, they all look the same, until you get up against someone throwing 100+

the faster they throw, the easier it is to hit them a mile.

A better explaination would be:

They harder they throw, the farther you can hit the ball, assuming you do hit the ball.

ESPN had a small feature on Sports Center a month ago or so on how players who used to have a balance of power and speed readjust their playing styles later in their careers to just being better power hitters (or just better hitters in general). It allows them to prolong their careers and maintaining effectiveness in baseball in a different way than they used to. Vladimir Guerrero's a good example lately. It's kinda like how power pitchers who used to be able to throw triple digit fastballs need to readjust and pitch smarter when they get older and can no longer throw that hard enough to scare batters.

I think of Ricky Henderson - base stealing legend.

25 Seasons = 1406 SBs

one thing i have really noticed about giants fans is how wound up they get over the dodgers and beating the dodgers. i have noticed with more dodgers fans they don't care for the giants, but it's not their ultimate goal to kills the giants. i guess the dodgers are more into winning championships and the giants are only concerned about beating the dodgers. there was even a documentary about this too. they were talking about how even giants players get heated over the rivalry while dodger players don't really care about it.

i'm not a dodgers or giants fan though so whatever.

Lou Gehrig played every inning of every game he played

I would have rather seen a consecutive inning record then a game, since its easy to get put into the record book playing the full game.
its easy to get put in the record book for most consecutive games is what you are saying?

well hell why doesnt everybody do it
