I think it's cool and all, and I'm definitely not hating, but this doesn't seem to be that big of a deal to me. It seems as if Subaru was like: "Where's a track that we can break the record and get good publicity out of it?" They beat a 20 year old car, big deal IMO, the STi was obviously going to kill it... Now if this sparks other manufactures to get involved to see what cars have bragging rights at Isle of Man then I'm all for it. But until other cars from the same class as the STI put up or shut up then I'll see it as just a publicity stunt.

As for the motorcycle times vs. the STI; I don't feel that the bike has that great of an advantage seeing the course is made up of public roads with its imperfections and dangers. I'd see the STI having one-up on the bike being its AWD with 4 tires on the ground instead of 2, but of course the bike would be faster overall just because it is. However you look at it, still very impressive for a first run attempt at the record.
Subaru put the challenge out there, let's see who answers.
someone correct me if i'm wrong, but a proper roll cage will make a car handle better.
that's probably because the measuring stick for how a car performs is Nordschleife.
in all fairness John McGuinness does have 17 wins at the Isle of Man TT, so he's not slow. plus that time they compared the STi to is the lap record at Isle of Man. the STi lap is only about 10 seconds slower than the fastest sidecar lap time this year.
if you ask me, they should have put a completely stock STi.
Yeah that's what I'm saying, if it gets other manufactures to get involved then that would be great. But there has to be a reason why no other racing team have tried to beat the 1990 record; either no one in the racing community cares about that record, or since it's on public roads they don't want to go through the hassle of organizing it.

Yeah Nordschleife is the proving grounds for sure. And I figured the bike time was the record for GP, I do feel like I have some egg on my face though. But like I said, I'm not hating.
And I agree on the completely stock sti running it and seeing the time, but I can understand the need for safety measures, especially when they hit 160mph. I'd would like to see a Evo with the same safety mods run it. I always love it when Subaru beats Mitsubishi.

Its a shame though because it is an awesome track - perfect for racing AWD powerhouses like the STi, EVO etc. Like a lap-oriented road rally.
