105k service and Subarubucks? Where to go?
Well, my '03 WRX has around 102k miles and I'm trying to figure out the best way to stretch my Subarubucks ($500 worth) for the 105k service.
Option 1: Go to dealer (probably bad idea); use all my Subarubucks and still get raped.
Option 2: Go to AutoHQ or GST but first buy all the parts online using Subarubucks.
Option 3: Go to AutoHQ or GST and save Subarubucks for new clutch (coming soon, I'm sure).
Anybody have some ideas? I'll have to get it done before snow season starts.

Albany Subaru quoted $670 for "15k service + timing belt service" which is what they say is the 105k recommended by Subaru. I guess now I just need to check with GST and AutoHQ on labor for the same service.
En3D: Yeah, I think you're right. I can order all the parts using the Subarubucks ahead of time. Do I need a new flywheel if the current one is resurfaced?

There really are three options, new OEM, new lightweight flywheel or resurface your existing.
I ruled out the lightweight due to the chatter and deceleration noise possibility. I also ruled against resurfacing the existing due to the same possibility and the fact that my flywheel has about 100k on it.
I too had subie bucks and a new OEM flywheel is around $240. I took the safest route since I didn't want to spend any more money if there is chatter, decel noise or some other issue. Plus, resurfacing is $75 so the difference is not a huge amount.

I predict that this price will double after you take the car in....

If you plan on bringing your own supplies, call the shop(s) and ask how much of a price reduction they're willing to give. Ideally, they will only charge for the labor, but this isn't always the case.
This tends to be more common with maintenance items -- oil, coolant, brake fluid, etc.

Water pump + gasket
Thermostat + gasket
Coolant
T-belt + idlers + tensioner
Parts alone > $500

Hmm, sounds like it'd be better if I went with AutoHQ. I'll have to check their rates for the timing belt service and see if they'll let me order the parts seperately.
