03 WRX Wagon: which oil filter
I know this had been asked in the past, but did a search and couldn't find the answer.
a while back I bought some oil filters in bulk for my WRX (stock 15208AA060 white ones) - but ran out.
I have to go buy a few today and know there's now new ones 15208AA080 (black, smaller ones)
my questions - stick with the 060 or should I use the 080 one?
thanks.

The smaller black ones are probably for '04-'05 wrx's and sti's. Use the bigger one for your car. They changed the oil pan size and filter when they changed the styling.

I just go to pep boys and grab the purolators (IIRC that's the brand of the stock ones) and they have a huge book on which one to buy depending on car model.
The smaller black ones allow more clearance between the filter and the exhaust manifold. This keeps the oil temps down.
Both filters will work, but you should get the small new ones when you can.

i believe the new "small ones" that subaru uses is the same filter that hondas/acuras use. This is what i've been told from a wrx owner who owns a 04 wrx. That said, the honda filters can be had for ~3 bucks.

Purolator Pure One is the brand of the stocker.
I have been using the Mobil 1 110. The 108 is the filter suggested for the turbo Subaru's, it is the exact same size as the new stock ones. The 110 is identical in every single way except it is taller by a good 33%. More filter = good. The ones we have on our cars are basically motorcycle filters (yes, there are motorcycles that use the SAME filter). More element means more filtering for longer periods and possibly better flow. The 110 is also the same price. It's now the filter I recommend...... [additionally, all of the tests I have read put the Mobil 1 filters at or above the Purolator Pure One]
