Oh a couple other things about the swap:

The ECS/ OEM Subaru pedal bracket does NOT work for the 06+ WRX 07+ STI pedal. You need to make something custom from a small piece of steel. Check my swap thread for more info. IF you go with the 04-05 pedal you can get the pedal adapter for about $12 from a dealership. 36020AE130

3/21/13 Update

I did a little cleaning and quick visual inspection along with started measuring the crankshaft last night. I still need to finish gathering up all the measurements, but there are a few things i wanted to ask the general consensus about.

#1 rod journal/bearing has some sever marks. the bearing that were pulled off the rod were a blueigh/purple haze. I suspected overheating of the bearing. Also note, that what seems to be a crack is a scratch mark of some sort.

Rear main bearing and journal. minor wear and tear. but not nearly as bad as #1 rod bearing!



Notice the pitting on the bottom of the cylinder walls. would a worn main/rod bearing cause the piston to travel low enough for the skirt to make contact??
Edit: the pistons are on the other side...*sigh* LOL. so, crank walk would cause a nick like that?






I just dont know what this scorch mark is. pinging? detonation? could detonation explain the bearing on #1?



For those of you who have rebuilt Subaru blocks, what steps am I looking at now? will a good machining/polishing on the crankshaft do the trick? or should i buy brand new. I also have another used crankshaft awaiting for me to pick up (thanks to JavaBlck)

Will the nicks at the bottom of the cylinder walls compromise the integrity of the block?

Update Bump:

Unfortunately I have decided to change plans. I no longer will be building and STI engine for an RSTI swap. I am going to pick up a project dirt bike and build it up for when i got riding in mendocino national forest. My lady and her dad go every year and this year i have had enough. i want my own dirtbike!

So, sad to say, but either the STi swap will be done in a few years or i just dont do it all together. Since, ill be looking for a third car (beater toyota truck for dirtbike trips), i dont really see myself going far with this build anytime soon.

If the moderators would be awesome and move and retitle. I would still like to keep this thread open for the other gearheads out there, but ill make a new thread if not possible. sorry for the crappy news. I, myself, am a bit bummed. but not so much when im done rebuilding my first dirt bike

haha. loovin it! ya i am bummed i have to abort. id LOVE to keep both projects. but realistically looking at everything, i cant really afford THREE projects! lol

 

Buy a bike that isnt a project, its the cheapest way out

 

but i WANT to find a project. lol. my inner gearhead speaking. my inner wallet, ya running would ne best.
