02RS25's BRP RSTI swap (V5 +V8 = V13 STi)
Good Day Iclub!
So the time has come! I bought a used EJ25 Shortblock from a supposed 2006 STI. Im still doing the research as to how to properly verify engine via numbers. The seller is a good friend of mine and has agreed to return all my $ should the tolerances be out of spec or if it’s not the block he thought it was. Its simple, I have a bugeye BRP RS and want to go faster, but want to built it myself on the way. My original plan was to do a custom build with 500+ but now im thinking im just going to build to OEM STI specs. Im in no rush to get this built. I anticipate and gave myself 2 years or so for the build (engine, tranny, diffs, hubs, ECU, wiring) everything! Same chassis, different car.
So, the reason for this thread?
1 )I want to open a thread up so people can throw down their ideas/comments/ suggestions. YES, I have been doing lots of research on the web and with fellow STI owners. I just want as much input as I can get.
2) Me being on a bit of a budget, I am going to be using used parts for different sections of the car/driveline ie:
WTB:
Stock TMIC, stock BOV, stock turbo, stock external engine/ tranny (mounts, shifters) parts
Stock 6spd, stock hubs, etc.
I will be using brand new internals (pistons, rods, bearings, valves, springs/retainers, also will be doing a thorough inspection on used OEM STI 6 speed.
I will keep this thread updated with pictures, comments, parts as I continue the RSTI build.
Im really looking forward to this build!

GL it took me about 2 months on my conversion.
Go with Keeners at iWire to saved time on the wiring.
If you are keeping the DBW check with ECS if they still have the pedal adapters.
I also stuck with my 2.5rs gearbox since I prefer the pusher set up. 320hp and the transmission works fine even with 130k miles.

ill deff take a look at the wiring source you mentioned. cause i KNOW ill be sitting on my garage floor all day mapping, soldering, testing all the wiring. lol
really? stuck with 5pd? i still havent done my homewrok on gearbox ratios, but what difference did you feel in the gearboxes if you have experienced both.

You send him your harness, he converts it since Subie wiring is a PITA
As for the transmissions, its a purely subjective topic. I've had my trans apart next to an Type R/RA Version 6 transmission. They were pretty much identical. Sure the STI 6spd is nice, but thats $$$. I prefer the pusher clutch type over the puller as well. There's a lot of pros and cons about it. If I could and had endless amounts of funds, a 6mt would be nice, but I'm fine with my 5spd

progress Bump:
step one:
acquire STI shorty. Check. lol
whats coming up:
im going to start really looking at the block, running VINs, and checking tolerences. then im going to start looking around online and other sources for a good/not cheap (budget) shop that will tank the block. after that, start looking at new OEM parts and specs for internal engine build.
