When Premier Auto Glass tried to clean my pillars and my roof with WINDEX, I told him to stop what he is doing and do not wipe it with that dirty cloth or WINDEX. But he insist the cloth was clean and the Windex was okay and it woudln't scratch. So I had to tell him again and he finally listened/

Nothing, they had no reason to be cleaning my roof and side pillars. It wasn't even dirty because I washed the car before I saw the guy.

They had to put tape in that area (though no need to clean that much).. but I think they clean way more than they need to.

What I did after a couple of days was got the hose and sprayed water around the windshield then checked for any wetness.

Just took off the blue tape and noticed wind noise when I drive.

I then looked closely at the top of the windshield and noticed the factory rubber piece isn't flush and see a gap between the glass and the gasket, which creates the noise.

I am calling Mike back to see when I can bring the car back. Pain in the f#$King a$$.

Let me know how it goes - I'm curious to see how he handles problems when they arise.

Well, this is pretty much his attitude... the install was good, no water leak.. Yea, you got some wind noise from the factory gasket but you shouldn't encounter any further/bigger issue. I will let my guy squeeze some silicon at the gap... If it doesn't fix it.. Oh well.. Let's see. Not exactly what he said, but that was his attitude.

His service guy was good though. Even good attitude. He wants to have the issue fixed very much.

I would say if you can find a place that has PPG and has a mobile service for $20 or so more. Go with them. At least you don’t have to drive down to San Jose downtown for install or warranty.

I just got back from a long trip to Tahoe. So through rain, snow and dirt, and sunshine, I don't see any visible, audible or olfactory signs of leakage. I'm going to wash the filth off my car this upcoming weekend and see if I have any more water leaks like I did before.

Benny, what Mike told me, and it makes sense, is that if you have water leak, the leak doesn't really come from the bottom, usually it's from the top. Once there is a path way, water will leak directly into the car.

If the sealing isn't good on the bottom of the windshield, then the water will have to get thru the gap (between rubber and glass) then travel back up and down again behind the dash (that's the pathway).

So when you had the leak, was the leakage source/gap closer to the side than the very bottom?

Hkwan,
I'm not sure where the actual source of the leak was at but I do know where the water ended up which was on the driver's floorpan. Not sure if that helps.

I watch they install, it's not rocket science. The way they put the glue/silicon around the glass (they all do it this way) I don't think water should leak.

The wind noise I experienced came from the deformation of a 2 inch area of the gasket on top of the windshield. The installer used his best english explaining to me that since the install was done on a cold day therefore the gasket didn't conform as smoothly. I hope that's the case.

Still waiting for an overall... "It's okay to have your windshield replaced by these guys, Stan" before I make the trip.

I still think it is ok to have Mike replace the windshield if you can't find a place that is less than 20, 30 bucks more expensive than here with PPG glass. You should be standing next to the installers and making sure they don't screw stuff up.

I think getting my windshield done during two days of rain didn't help - the blue tape peeled off at the glass (part stuck to the gasket stayed stuck) so when the car is moving the wind have the leverage off of the 1/2 peeled tape and pulled the gasket open a bit.

When the Silicon dries the gasket / glass gap stays opened.
