Damn that doesn't sound very fun! I partially tore my LCL, fully tore my ACL and also did a number on my meniscus. So much for learning rodeos this year!

where are you in recovery from the surgery?
I had to have some of those same issues repaired. Fortunately I only MOSTLY tore my ACL. They ended up not needing the cadaver lig. Instead they drilled a bunch of holes in my knee to make it bleed so the ACL would reattach using the scar tissue.
I just went in today for an exam. They're gonna do some xrays next week and then I'll go to a new specialist. Might need another surgery. Hoping I can get by with just a new knee brace and loosing some weight though.

I don't have surgery until the 18th because I go to school in colorado, and I need to be home to have it. I live on a 3rd story apartment here, and crutches + snow + freshly cut apart knee = serious bad action.

Damn that sucks. So your season is truly toast. That sucks.
I missed part of two seasons recovering from mine and still ride with a brace. Good luck man.

My ACL had a 95% tear for an entire season, and it was crappy having a knee do the twist every so often, only to swell the **** up and hurt alot. A whole year on no ACL is no fun even if you can still shred the slopes.
It's been two years since I had replacement surgery, with a cadaver ligament, and my knee feels about 80% of what it was before the injury. Couldn't ask for a better outcome.
And as for the third story apartment, just walk up backwards. It'll help you heal faster

Haha are you serious about the walking backwards thing?! I'm glad that i'm not the only one that has had to deal with this and being a really big snowboarder. I hope the rest of you guys have a fantastic and safe season in Tahoe too! Looks like the next time i'll be shredding is in Argentina in July!
so i got 2 snowboards today both have only been out twice. i had a friend who owed me some money and they had some snowboards they were selling anyway, now if anyone needs to go and they are on a budget, if you can afford yoru lift ticket, and chip in for gas, you dont even need to rent the gear.
anyway, i am super stoked to get going for the season but we will see when we will start being able to go out
im so bored, im stuck in that part of the year when there is nothing to do.
most track events i would participate in are over, not enough snow on the ground, drag strips are closed, we need to get snow like the rockies just got last week where they got pounded all week by a storm. 1 foot of snow a day for a couple days... that would opens some mountains up

i hope so too... el nino is kind of a double edge sword
on one side you gets massive amounts of precipitation
on the other side it is warmer than usual
i remember last time el nino rolled through we were shredding til may, and it was awesome
This will be the first season with my STi in the snow. I was wondering if I get a winter setup and swap it in San Jose will it eat up my winter tires on the trip to Tahoe and back?

just go get yourself a good set of all season tires. you should be just fine with that

BTW dkohn1337, do yourself a favor and protect your GR's front-end -- get a clear bra. Take it from a fellow DGM GR owner LOL! My GR with 14k miles has more rock chips than my '07 Civic w/ 22k miles and my gf's '05 Civic with 40k miles combined -- that's just from a dozen or so Tahoe trips, and a few road trips here and there. My GR is now at the shop getting a re-paint.

word... best all season tire I've ever used... and they last pretty good.
a good all season tire m/s rated of course will be just fine as long as you're careful.
Having 2 sets of tires is nice but really only necessary if you live up there. Otherwise it's just kind of a luxury deal. If you can afford it go for it.
I don't know if my pzero's are gonna make it through the season. They're almost on the bars. But hell if I can drive re070's in the snow I can drive balding m/s tires...

Oh... and to answer this question.
Depends on the tire. If it's a studded or GNARLY snow tire then yeah it's gonna be loud and get worn quicker. If it's a tire that's meant to be driven on like the Blizzaks L22's or whatever the hell they are then it's fine. Still a bit loud though.
I think driving studded tires out of the bay area is stupid. IF you need them at all it's only late at night or for gnarly storms and they usually close the roads at that point.
