Remove silencer CEL?

I'm considering removing the intake silencer on my 03 and I've read that doing so can throw you a CEL. Is that true? If so, how can I reset the ECU if I do get a CEL without going to the dealer?

I removed mine and never had a check engine light, you shouldn't have any problems, and if you do just throw it back on, its really easy to remove and install.

The cels happen on the downpipe where you mess with the o2 sensors and cats.

The silencer shouldn't affect this

Last note, if you don't reset the ECM you will get a CEL. The flow character IS different and apparently the MAF notices that something has changed. However, once the ECM is reset there is no CEL.
That's from the Scoobymods post... I don't really think that's true, since you're changing the flow before the airbox itself. The air exiting the airbox and past the MAF should still be in the same flow pattern. I didn't reset my ECU after I took it out and got no CEL at all.

That's actually the first I've ever heard of a possible CEL after removing the silencer... at least for a WRX.

you won't get a CEL, but your muffler bearing fluid might dry up fastAr.

If you get a CEL from removing the silencer, it is because you borked something along the way.....most likely you would not get the airbox cover back on properly or you borked the MAF harness/plug somehow....
