Turbo on a 98 to 01 2.5 RS

Hey guys I have a simple question. Does installing an aftermarket turbo on a 98 to 01 2.5 RS Impreza lessen the motor life? Also is it worth it at all?

Most definitely!

Do a WRX swap, it'll be cheaper AND more reliable in the longrun.........BELIEVE ME.

The biggest shortcoming of building an RS-T is lack of proper engine management. Since 90% of available US WRX drivetrains include the ECU and wiring, you get a much more cohesive system with no bugs to work out or hours of tuning time to spend. Plus, you get the benefit of not having to worry about how much longer until your head gasket or rings fail. Putting a turbo on an EJ25 can be rewarding if you know how to keep it running right, but if you aren't an experienced mechanic it makes far more sense to do it right.

with new pistons/rods a RS-T should be able to run fine right? I thought those were the main weak points (other than the need for proper fuel management)

Pistons/rods would help, because you could lower the compression ratio with them. After that, its just a matter of proper tuning. Bill from I-speed would have a better answer about this.

I presumed we were just talking the physical block, not so much the rest of the kit.
