Hi guys,

Tried to open my WRX Sedan trunk by the inside lever and was not able to. The lever would not budge, thinking that I may have accidently hit the lock switch on the latch. I went back to the trunk with the key... To my surprise, it would not budge either.

Somehow I was able to sneak in through the center pass through just enough to pop the trunk using the emergency lockout handle. I inspected the lock switch and it was not turned on. ?!? I closed the trunk again and everything worked as it should.

Anyone else run into this? BTW: It was really hard getting back out of the center pass through once I got the trunk popped. On the hindsight, I should have paid some small kid to do it. DISCLAIMER: Don't try this at home. :)

that release mechanism is the worst I've experienced in the few car's I've driven. I think that remote lever might just break one of these days.

I've found a few threads which tell you how to ease the release mechanism. I sprayed some WD40 and it helped a bit.

i had the same problem where i couldn't open it from inside the vehicle. all you have to do is loosen the latch inside the trunk and raise it up a little so that when it closes it catches it faster and this should solve the problem

A lot of people have the same problem with their trunks. I freaked out when it happened to me to except I didn't have a problem openning it with the key outside the trunk. It's just a minor problem cuz I don't often use my trunk anyways.

I had difficulties closing and opening mine when it was new. As others mentioned, you can adjust the height of the "catch" so it releases/closes properly. Just make tiny adjustments until it feels right.

hahahaha I had that exact thing happen to me. And trust me, it wasn't fun crawling through the back when you have a subwoofer in the trunk as well :D

btw when raising the catch thingy, don't raise it all the way up. Just a little is fine enough. About 1-2 milimeters up.

OK,

STOP crawling through from the inside!!!!! Apply slight downward pressure on the decklid while inserting and turning the key! The decklid should open, if it does perform the adjustment procedure (search to find it- this has been covered-recovered----should really be a "sticky") What I suspect happens is the trunk surround weatherstrip "grows" causing the release latch to require more effort than the inside release or key can apply to open. Adjust the "striker" not the latch and you should be fine.
