Well, I had GST Motorsports do mine. I didn't want to fuss with it, and plus if it started to leak, I have someone to take it back to (=
You can get to it, but you'd have to remove the heat shields. You do have to drill and tap to put it in.

I have had mine in both the driver's side manifold and the passenger's side mainfold. I noticed the driver's side MAYBE runs a little bit warmer, but it isn't much if at all. I do have an injen x-pipe though so that might help keep the driver's side running a little cooler.
I actually have my spare manifold that already has EGT tapped in the passenger side mani if you are interested. The heat sheild is already trimmed and I have the bolts, nuts, gaskets, etc. I am running a custom PPC setup now with my tap in the driver's side mani, just in case you are curious. PM me if you are interested in my spare mani.
It is actually pretty easy to tap the mani once it is off the car. If you have the drill and tap it takes maybe 15 minutes and that is going slow... Removing the manifold from the car takes the longest but even that really isn't very hard.
Where to put the tap probably depends on what you are going to compare the data to. If you are going to try to compare a DP mount to a DP mount that would be a good place to put it. However, most people put the EGT in the mani and so they will report temperatures based on this location.
I would recommend putting it in the manifold as that will allow you to compare your measurements with most other people and it should also be the most conservative, i.e. hottest, location.
